This is supposed to be a little octopus, but I'm afraid it may look more like a spider. Nonetheless, I'm proud that I actually completed it. I have to say that I love the instant gratification of these tiny objects, and I'm sure I'll be creating more. I think I just need some finer yarn. This stuff was so chunky it was hard for me to really control the shape. Maybe I'll try to make a spider next, and wind up with something that looks like an octopus.So now that I'm hooked, does anyone have any recommendations of where to go from here? Good links or books I should check out?

dude how the hell do you make these? i use yarn and stuff but i've never realized you could make little animals out of it?

It's all just crocheted in the round. Not too tricky once you get a feel for it. Crochet seems to be an easy way to make up patterns as you go along.

Stitch & Bitch: Happy Hooker is pretty good, and I'd imagine you could find it at most libraries. If you know how to knit already, though, you can apply some of that knowledge to crochet, so I'm sure you'd be able to pick it up. Be warned: Making amigurumis is highly addictive.

The eyes were the easiest part, actually. They're just little plastic things that I picked up at Hobby Lobby in the plushie section. You just stick them through the fabric and snap them on with a little ring. I need to find some more types of eyes, since I think they really add a lot with minimal effort. Sometimes I just can't handle embroidering features onto a stuffie, and this is a nice alternative.

I love the color though! It makes it all the more cute. I could never sew anything, all that detail and what not. Makes me feel like I'm in a hurry to finish so I can move on to the next part. But still I wish I could!
