Never quite understood the whole "badass with facial scars" trope. Wouldn't the sign of a true badass be not having any scars? All scars say is that you sucked and got seriously injured for it. To me, nothing says badass like being through a thousand battles and not having a single wound to show for it.

Survivor of a thousand battles without scars? Some people would call it being a Mary Sue if it's a fictional setting. Or extremely lucky if it's real life. Cause no matter how badass you are, unless you posses some extraordinary power of evasion/healing/other, something somewhere will hit you and leave mark on you.

And I honestly doubt someone will be such a massive badass from the very start and not receive a single scar in thousand battles. I find that horribly unrealistic, no matter what.

Also, the real sing of a badass is not only being able to avoid hits. It's also about being able to survive them. Scars are testimony to that level of badassery.

I think there was one samurai, forgot his name, who wore FUCKING DEER ANTLERS to battle, AND HE NEVER GOT HIT. Granted, it's more of "no scars to show it" but food for thought. I'm sure if you browse Badass of The Week, you'll find his entry.

This guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Ta… ? Interestingly enough, there seems to be his opposite, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ii_Naoma… , who suffered many wounds, but lived trough them.

Yup! That's the guy! Either way, surviving a war with no scars or a crap ton of scars are both qualities of a fine soldier.

I guess, but Kiva is from a series where you can press a red button to have your mech transform into a phoenix and kill everything...getting face scars seems like it would put her so far from badass that she might as well be Yamcha. You know Coop would mock the face scars.Β
"I'm the greatest warrior my race has ever seen!"
"Yeah, well if you're so great, why does your face look like jerky?"
"It's a sign of how many great battles I've waged and won!"
"Really? Cuz I've "waged and won" plenty of great of battles, and I don't look like jerky."
"Shut up!"
"You shut up! Uh...jerky face!"

I would take that, in Megas XLR, if your mech gets blown up, you are as good as dead, unless you can eject from the mech. That's why Coop is scar-free. On the other hand, Kiva does engage in hand-to-hand combat. Plenty of chances to become scarred.

Yeah, that would be something Coop would say.
