well i'm going to see the film today. so far the critics have been disliking it. i'd say i could never be a critic because i'm usually a fan first when it comes to stuff like this but even the fans have been split. i'm still going to see it and trying to stay positive but you know. hear something so many times you start believing it. at this point im hoping it's at least a good way to kill an two hours and a half. fingers crossed

i hear ya, the critics disliking it it disheartening. But not to put on my tinfoil hat but i read a lot of the criticism, and some of them r, well shady, almost all of them are comparing this movie to marvel movies, they r mad that there weren't enough one liners and quips?? one of them said there were too many oscar winners in the cast which is just???? Other critics saying it doesnt take the marvel approach and makes te movie out to be more of mythological, artistic which i dont know why they'd think thats a bad thing?? Critics seem to hate it but fans seem to love it tho, most of them saying its the best cbm they've ever seen, all of my DC comic friends keep begging me to see it cuz they say its such a love letter to comicbook readers that they're going to watch it 3 more times, they also say its very dense and story driven so u really have to pay attention
so yeah im gonna watch it tomorrow and form my own opinion and not compare it to any other superhero movie, im gonna judge it based on its merits as its own movie.

i saw it thursday and while i do see what the critics are talking about i still enjoyed the movie. i was talking more about the only critics and i didnt really see them compare it to marvel or the oscar actor thing but i agree those are dumb critques. i like it the same way i like spider-man 3 and the amazing spider-man 2. they aren't perfect comic adaptions like this one but they have their moments that make this an enjoyable experience for a dc fan. not sure if im completely sold on jesse as lex but i loved everyone else. and the scenes were jumbled and it different places but that actually reminded me of a comic book. how the panels separated each scene. that didnt bother me and while dc is kinda rushing it i dont really mind it because i know most of the characters their using. henry cavil said in an interview that this was made for the fans not the critics so as as a dc fan i enjoyed it so.

glad u did! I enjoyed this movie immensely, and yeah it wasn't perfect, editing was choppy, I liked this lex but they should have toned down his craziness, and the start of the movie was a little slow, but for me the good outweighs the bad, i loved the characterization, the plot and the implications for the futureΒ

I have mixed feelings about Batman v. Superman. If I wanted to watch a Batman vs. Superman fight, I'd watch Dark Knight Returns.

lmao, no thanks, the dark knight returns is a bastardization of supermans character and that i cannot forgive. Not saying the movie and comic is bad, just saying it messed a character up to make another one look better and is just not my cup o tea.

While those are good points, I wouldn't go so far as to say DKR bastardizes Superman. In fact, it doesn't shine any character in a positive light, everyone is being shone in shades of grey.
Batman fights because he just can't sit by and watch his home fall apart around him, but it also shows he's not completely good either. He brutally beats up criminals and a few innocents get caught in the crossfire of his crusade. He acts like a general in a war rather than the hero most make him out to be.
And Superman, while he is sort of the story's antagonist, isn't a villain either. The reason he fights and acts the way he does is because he knows that should something happen the world would blame him and the other members of the League even though they're just trying to help. He acts the way he does because people fear him, and he doesn't want them to.

nah i really cant accept how they portrayed superman, i mean he revoked his US citizenship cuz he realized he couldnt just stand for america he had to stand for the world, he found out the government had been hiding a superbeing and used him as the bomb in nagasaki and he got mad as frick at government, He publicly chastised the UN leaders when they wen too far on national TV, he has broken the law and defied the government multiple times to do what was right, but suddenly he's now their pawn in the future? and he obeys like a dog when they tell him to take out his best friend? nah im not into that superman that everyone perceives is some figure of ultimate authority always waging his fingers at us for not obeying our government, the movie used him as the ultimate authority figure to rebel against and like hnggg that makes mad that they reduced him to just that

Yeah, but Superman didn't revoke his citizenship until 2011, DKR was published back in '86.

tru, but he's always never been a dog of government who follows every letter to the T, he has rebelled numerous times

True, but you gotta remember how DC is about its multiverses and timelines. Need I remind you of the Injustice universe and Earth 3's Crime Syndicate?

yeah, im not into those either tbh, earth 3 and injustice i can sorta understand cuz ultraman wasn't raised and didnt have the experiences of superman and injustice sperman lost lois(which tbh i still find extremely demeaning to clarks character that he'd snap cuz of that, that's what superman is to me the boundless faith and hope for and in the human race)

8DrunkenImmortals In reply to RisingDiablo [2016-03-15 10:54:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but he didn't just lose Lois, he lost his unborn son and Metropolis. And when he confronts Joker, Joker just laughs at his pain. I'd say that's enough to snap.
But, you do still make a valid point. Superman does represent the best in us all and we need to remember that.
