There's a bit of a story behind this one. I actually started this picture about a year ago, maybe more, but I never finished it. I've never had a lot of confidence when it comes to painting without lineart, and after spending many frustrating hours on it, I gave up and left it aside (along with all the other half finished pictures I have sitting around on my hard drive). Then just last night I was going through my old digital paintings, and stumbled across it.I have a much better graphics tablet these days, so I figured I'd give it another try... and hurrah! Six hours of work later, it's actually finished.

-Photoshop 6 then CS2, crappy old Aipteck tablet then lovely new Wacom tablet
EDIT No, it bloody well is NOT Scar from Full Metal Alchemist! Does he have a scar across his face? No! Does he have white hair? No! Does he have a yellow jacket? No! Yes, he has a tattoo, but it's on the wrong arm and is a completely different design.
I hadn't even seen FMA when I first started working on this. Please. Stop. Asking. Me.

ah it's been a while since I looked at this fave. And no reason for me to love it any less. I just love the intimidation factor here the shading, the expression, the uncertainty of the child sells it well.

What's interesting to me about this character is that the fact that you had not seen FMA (and yes I believe you because this situation has happened to me) and yet the character design concept is so similar, at least, if what i gather from the scene has happened. Anyway... It proves to me yet again that there is nothing new under the sun! (not this your art isn't awesome, because IT IS) Interesting to me how different people have similar ideas by accident.
One of these days I might show you Pibby, a character I made up a few years ago based on an inside joke between me and my husband, having never seen or heard of lilo and stitch, which somehow looks similar. But i have his transformation on paper, different tail, ear, eye, and nose styles, before he got to where he is now. anyway, I feel your pain! It's a similar feeling, in a way, to my 7th grade memories of hearing "did you trace that? You SO traced that..." UGH!

This is really really cool, just a really well done piece. debating on dabbling in some photoshop paint, but i not has tablet.

Anyways, jokes aside, I have to say I love this work of yours. The detail in the background, in dat tattoo (*bites lower lip*), he's incredibly badass, not someone I'd like to piss off or meet, while pissed off in a dark alley, if the two unlucky blokes laying in their own blood are any indication.

Coool!! It's a bit reminiscent of Taboo Tattoo, which is about peoples with tattoos on their hands that give them special powers when they glow and hover (the tattoos, not the people). It's like brand new.
Getting away from comparisons, I love the effect and raggedy cloak (I can never draw raggedy stuff; it just never works out) and of course the corpses in the background.

omg. i really like you'r style to do these. like one piece and stuff. this art member me about my own cartoon, which is not ready yet.... it tell's about teenagers, who get element powers like ice, fire, speed.... and they can do translation, and come an animals! you know, animals who can talk, and they have something different as real animals have. likeeeeeee....... hmm.... armour, and those element powers. and when they are animals, theyr powers come stronger. it's kind of weird cartoon, is it..? oh well. sorry about wasting your time, and sorry about my bad english. T_T but i like you'r works. ^^

thats really odd that you didn't know who scar was before you made this. What was your idea about what happened in the picture? It looks like to me: if someone perceived him as scar, it is because it looks like that what just happend was that he "cleansed them because they were evil" or killed rather. Thats pretty much what that dude does. What was your concept though?? did this guy kill those men too? I mean it looks that way. But how and why? I'm so curious!

Well, if you're curious...
The idea was along the lines of that he's an assassin of some sort, killing off the members of a rival clan.His tattoo comes to life and slices people up in a pretty brutal fashion. I never intended there to be a clear distinction between good and evil; the guy with the tattoo is certainly no righteous hero, though he let the kid live, and those who are fallen are neither good nor evil.
