Description I hadn't planned on drawing this; much less submitting it now, of all times xD

Okies, this is a character I haven't introduced for Windswept... obviously, lol. So far, he's one of my favorite characters.
I tried out a new coloring style and I love it <3 I developed a method without the use of a tutorial, so I'm pretty glad that I can call this style my own

And whether or not you're wondering this, I'm still working on Windswept at a steady pace. I just haven't scanned and cleaned the pictures yet. xD;; I'm most likely gonna update the art to make it more consistent in style so that means I've gotta rewrite the pages. Hey, I'm not planning on changing the story or panel layout; it's all gonna be basically the same, it's just that the art's gonna look... better xDDD I'mma write a quick character description for good ol' Yuu-kun, k? C:

At 17 years of age, Yuuki Arashi was the youngest squadron leader for the Hoshizora Foundation in the youth division. He's the great-grandson of Mr. Hoshizora who first established the Hoshizora Foundation and affiliated organizations around the world. They seek to keep neutrality with their allies outside of the country and to protect the people with supernatural abilities signed under the contract.
Seemingly icy and cold-hearted on the outside, Yuuki is a very tenderhearted young man who deeply cares for his squad, which is partly the reason why he was promoted to his current position. Yuuki is at his best with his position; his loving nature strengthens his job of protecting and training other young people to become developed Agents of Hoshizora. Many times girls (and some guys) in the Foundation will develop a crush/admiration for Yuuki with the belief that he's "cool," or "studious." Which he is, but those that don't know him closely only see the outside, and not what's truly in his heart.
More often than not, Yuuki spends his free time helping missing children find their parents and researching secret files. Secretly, he's a closet otaku. He enjoys making cosplay outfits and has quite an arsenal of homemade items made for sizes of all sorts.
His preferred attributes are water and wind, with water being his first. He has a combined attack technique that melds the water and wind together to produce snow; and when this happens, it becomes a ferocious freeze. At age 13 he earned the nickname of "Blizzard Storm" due to this technique.

Aaaaaaand that's all I can think of for now xD Peace out, peoples <3
(Btw, first critiqueable art! I'm so nervous!! >w<)

First, let me say that i LOVE that you didn't use all black lines! I think it gives it flavor of sorts that you used blue ^__^
His hair is really interesting, it reminds me of Roxas from Kingdom Heart \(^__^)/
I admire that you went for a different face shape-elongated I think is always different, but interesting!- however, I think that the skull shape of his head is atomically incorrect. I also think that if you widen his neck, his head connection with his shoulders would look more comfortable.
You did an awesome job in proportion w/ his head and shoulders! Most mangaka make the shoulders too big or small, but you made them just the right size and not rigid. This makes him look not feminine (which is also a fault most manga make). I think if you widen the neck, it would pair w/ the shoulders very well!
Good job! Your new style is a hit

Hey, I’m Kiki of OtakuDreamers, here to respond to your critique. Since I’m not a premium member myself, I can’t click the “critique” button, but I’ll do my best. Hopefully, I won’t be too harsh, and hopefully I’ll be able to help. If I wasn’t that helpful in explaining, please tell me and I’ll be more than happy to be try to clarify myself

The first thing I notice is eyes and the font. (I’m such a font geek, it’s crazy...) anyways, about the eyes: the best thing about them? The contrast. I’m really in love with the near-black parts compared to the near-white parts of the eyes. It gives the eyes a lot more of a 3D look to it, which leads me to the lighting. There seems to be two sources of lighting here. One light source is a full frontal light source (aka he’s yuuki-san is facing the light source), while another light source is coming from behind (aka he’s facing away from the light source). His head seems to have frontal lighting, while anything below his shoulders seems to have back lighting. Although it’s very plausible to have two conflicting lighting sources, it wasn’t carried out correctly in this case. It’s a lot easier coloring wise to have either one or the other kind of lighting, and it’s a lot easier to have full frontal lighting. (which is why I’ll explain how to edit this so that it’ll have frontal lighting, and I’ll link you to this amazingly helpful tutorial (for me, at least) that shows how to do both front and back lighting.)

to have frontal lighting, all you’d need to edit is anything below the shoulders. In this case, you’ll be putting shadows around the outline of his body, and highlights/lighter color at the chest and shoulders, which protrude out more in comparison to the rest of the torso. Here’s the link to the tutorial: [link]

more about the lighting: he kinda looks flat... why? It’s because of contrast. Remember what I said earlier about the eyes and the tons of contrast? That also applies to everything else. Take a look at this [link] . Let’s concentrate on Ganon’s long flowy hair right now the lightest part is near white, and the darkest part is near black. What I’m trying to say is that the great contrast gives the figure a lot of depth and looks really 3D because of it. Now, let’s switch our focus to Ganon’s nose. The tip of it is nearly white, and the darkest area is nearly black. Again, the great contrast gives the figure a lot of depth. Basically, contrast gives the illusion of depth. (p.s.: if you were trying to go for a more cartoony look, then sorry about that. to get good lighting for a manga/anime style that’s similar to anime, look again at the tutorial I linked earlier )

Okay, proportions. The only things that are really off are the head size/shape and the neck size. The head should be more circular, and perhaps less angular. Although angular is part of the anime style, the head right now is rather long. What I do when I draw heads is that I draw a circle (note: not an oval, though! Circle! ), then I add the jaw line. (usually an upside-down triangle that has rounded off edges and slightly curved sides)

Again, I really like the eyes, because of the contrast. In addition, it’s great to know that you’ve started a new coloring style! keep it up!

Hahaha, good job~

Awww, I like his description! He reminds me of a friend I had in Japan who was super cool and slick, but he was also a big anime fan and gamer--two seemingly huge opposites!! Love it, and pretty unique~ In manga we tend to see the typical nerdy character getting the role of otaku~ Time to break the stereotype~~~!

I like the character design a lot! Love the white hair with bright blue eyes combination. Very gorgeous!! I also like how his hair sweeps over, too! It's got some good dimensions and depth! Great work with that~

The coloring style works very well, I'm pretty impressed! I especially like how it looks in certain parts of his clothing (the blue, especially). Very nice! I suppose the only part that I see that looks off to me is the light lines within the darkest shaded parts--the creases of his arms and the lines around the strap. It looks kinda like those areas are glowing! Color lineart is good, but for reason here, it kinda distracts me??

Anyhoo, gorgeous! And I can't wait to see how your style evolves as you continue to work on/edit Windswept! YAYAY~~~

Thanks so very much for the critique!! ;w; You've no clue how much I appreciate that. Sometimes I can't see my own mistakes. 8D
Ah, I figured something was wrong with the lines; it all started out as a light blue, but that didn't look right, so I changed it to black, but it looked too plain. So then I used a gradient to color the lines. I guess I should have done it the other way, huh?
But once again, thanks for all of the wondrous support! >w<
