Description Sollux. With his eyes burning! To nothing! Fading...but hey, it's ok.

SO yeah, I'm not sure what to say about it. As much as a pain smoke is to paint, I sure seem to like messing with it. I had to put the red and blue into the image somehow, they're one of my favorite color combinations.

This... I absolutely adore this. It's so... HNNG. I know, he no longer has to deal with the voices, but... He's blind, powerless, and above all, it means that he may be nearing his end. Sollux is my favorite troll- No, my favorite character in Homestuck- and I thing I will honestly cry if and when he dies. This picture just... It makes me so sad, but in a good way.

I have to say.. The thumbnail does not do this drawing justice. Very well done.. I'm just captivated by that smoke of yours. I'd love to know your painful process for making such beautiful smoke. xD

Well, it involves a lot of airbrush and blending and occasionally looking at references in hopes that I'm getting somewhere near what smoke actually looks like. XD And then doing parts over if they look all wrong.

I really like this! The way you paint is gorgeous, and I dig all the detail you put into your pieces. Sollux's hands, for example, are awesome. The amount of values is really nice, especially the glowy quality of the area around his eye sockets.
I think the angle of his head/what you wanted in the picture may have messed you up when painting, as Sollux sort of lacks a neck here! : o That head and neck angle is pretty tricky from the front. It also looks like his head is a little big in comparison to his body. I dunno. Things like that sometimes muck up the ideas with which one goes into a piece, and changing them (if one notices them) can be a real pain.
But I love just about everything else in this piece. The "painted-on" quality of the Gemini logo on Sollux's shirt is great, as are the lines you draw on the horns. The way he's pulling at his eyelids (kind of a gross thought ) is a nice touch, almost as if he were like, "Where are my eyes? " I adore that you gave him man-brows. They are, simply put - WONDERFUL. The smoke may be my favorite part of the picture. It seems kind of ethereal, which I think is a good quality for red-and-blue-colored magic smoke to have. The fact that some parts are brighter and more saturated while others are more faded is cool, and so are the little lines in the smoke that are more solid and defined. And the double helix shape of the smoke is also pretty darn awesome. (did you do that on purpose? ) The background colors really contribute to the mood and atmosphere of the piece, and they complement the other colors as well.
Overall, I like this a lot. Your use of value is strong, I love the pops of color, the mood is appropriate and there are plenty of lovely details.
