Ruby is an under-development Vocaloid4, she doesn't have a design yet except for 3early concept but they're just urgh ><So since Ruby is an Engloid developped along with Cyber Diva ( and I won't say CyVa, it'd be like calling me RiDo ) I designed her with the same vibe. AND A CHUBBY VOCALOID !!!!! Because chubby is cute 0V0
She also have the same lining on her leggings than CyberDiva but it's thinner.
You CAN'T compare real life and drawings ( especially mine ) Chubby depends HEAVILY on someone style and if you go through my gallery and open your eyes then Ruby is chubby ! Since I have enought of this debate here:
Hatsune miku is the same height as I designed Ruby : 1m60
Right : Miku : 45kg = NORMAL / average corpulence, equivalent body mass index : 18 = NORMAL
Left : Ruby : 65kg = CHUBBY, equivalent body mass index = 25 = CONSIDERED LIGHLY OVERWEIGHT !!!! so Chubby

The mistakes in the drawing don't really bother me but, it may be because I've been doing characters/outfits designs for years now, It lacks something. I feel this design has no impact or personality.
If I have to look for it again to remember what it looks like, that means there's a problem.
I sincerely prefer the design commissioned by the studio because it had impact, it catches the eyes.
Don't mind the other fella, I had completely forgot of his existence anyway

Yeah, I can see what you mean. It's like VOCALOID has this design philosophy that everyone "should follow" and it kind of leads in the same direction. But now that I think about it, she kind of doesn't have something to make her stand out from the rest. I suppose they were trying to take an ordinary everyday outfit and make it iconic, like how Miku's is a school uniform but much more futuristic-like. But that's kind of what puts me off. Trying to counter Miku is a fine idea, but it's not always going to work out (good idea on paper, but not executed right). She's simply too overly popular and trying to too hard to make a design that's inspired or countering her can risk being overlooked. :/ Like you said before, Ruby is Latina and building off her ethnicity further probably would have made her more eyecatching. But there's also the part when Misha wanted Ruby to represent her hometown too (Bronx, NY), but... if I'm being honest, she doesn't exactly scream New York to me very much. I've never been to the Bronx before, but that's the thing: She looks like any other person out there that it's kind of hard to look at her and immediately think of Bronx or New York. Northern part of the USA, sure, but not a specific exact region like Northwest or Northeast. :/
I am unhappy to admit that I was one of the people who jumped the gun and got angry at PFX. I really want to go back and punch myself in the face for it. The design was fine in my opinion. I guess what really got me was that, like everyone else who was pissed, we assumed that PFX deliberately "white-washed" Ruby or that they received her concepts beforehand. I don't think it really helped that we got to see design concepts that depicted her with darker skin in the past. I think, if i never saw the concepts, then I probably wouldn't have reacted in such a way. At this point, I just feel bad. Everyone lashed out at PFX just because of bad communication between company, relay, and developers. And even in the present, it's still bad. PFX never received the final boxart from the developers and hastily made their own (which was poorly constructed). But ever since the whole design fiasco over the summer, I stopped following Ruby's development and aftermath because of too much drama. I'm waiting for things to cool off so I can try looking again.

Yeah, even for me she doesn't have that USA/Latina feeling.
I was thinking of maybe working on the official design to make it more "punchy" 'cause there are very simple and easy way to make the design more unique.
And indeed, stating the design was an attempt to counter Miku was just, I'm sorry to say it but ridiculous. Miku is the most popular Vocaloid ever and is Worldwide Known with millions of fans. I even know peoples who doesn't know who Miku Hatsune or what a Vocaloid is but still knows her appearance.
Because she have a simple yet effective concept, put into an actual working design, it works.
To my taste, Ruby has too many elements already presents on other OFFICIAL vocaloids, not even talking of the other companies.

I think it should have been more important to focus on making her stand out from not only Miku, but from every other VOCALOID as well... or even better, simply just English VOCALOIDs. English is the second largest language available to VOCALOID and that's what Ruby is, an English-only VOCALOID. I just think it's a bit too risky to try to focus on countering a popular Japanese VOCALOID like Miku when Ruby does not have a Japanese voicebank. She's not exactly targeted towards Japanese fans. :/ I think it's more important to get English VOCALOIDs in general more noticed. And while the fandom may like her design, musicians from the outside care more about the voice in the end. Even if the design is absolutely stunning, if the musician doesn't like her voice or think it's a hassle to use the voicebank, then they just don't use it. 
I think what I'm trying to say is, you can have a good design, but it's also important to pay a lot of attention to the voicebank itself too. A good voicebank for every musician and producer to use, and a good design to appeal to fans, the fandom, and as a bonus to the musician if they bought the physical copy (something nice to look at, heh heh)

The voice is important too of course, I personaly can't stand high pitched voices a lot ( only once in a chile ) so I look at them more than I listen to them. I'm more for low pitched but powerful voices

I've always preferred Chinese VOCALOIDs, so I'm kind of really biased about them. I really enjoy their designs and I like their voices, but I can at least mention what I don't like about them too. XD I've always liked powerful sounding VOCALOIDs though, like flower.

To be honest I prefer your Ruby over the official one(it kinda needs some editing here and there but the concept is nice)
The official design isnt really...woah.We already got so many vocaloids with coats and the short+double belt thing was kinda already done with luka and yan he.In my opinion,a more mature design maybe would have been better...

I actually really liked the one PFX had commisioned that was showed at AnimeExpo ( I'm looking for the artist behind this ), it needed some lil' changes but it was more like : " yeah ! A new kind of Vocaloid ! " but we just got the same stereotype again instead.
Wished they had gone for someting more original. If the plan was to counter-miku as someone said, it's a big failure. In the end, the final version of Ruby is gonna be forgotten soon.
With a jacket and belt of some sort we also have : Yuzuki Yukari, Gumi Append, Galaco ... and the most similar of them : Sonika.

Woah,you are the second person who said they liked the PFX design since everyone hates it.I mean,ye maybe there was some miscommunication but the hate on the design is just unnescessary.I dont know if people even realize how rude they are since there was obviously a person who worked hard on the drawing/3d model.People who say they like the PFX ruby also get alot of hate etc.,its kinda sad

Well i think the vocaloid design process is like 'pick an outfit and add some sparkles and glowing stuff + headphones' so they probably didnt realize it themselves lol

Yeah I don't get it either, there is on this very deviation someone who almost insulted me because I said I didn't like the final design.
I don't even get what they're angry for. The saveruby thing was useless, it's not like it changed anything. It's not up to us to decide the design in the very beginning.
If they're happy then they stay and if they're not then they go, it's that simple.
So far the only vocaloid which I think have an original design that drives away from what we saw a million times are MEW, Mayu and Sweet Ann Taiwanese version.

If they wanted to counter miku they should have gone for something more "grandiose", you said it yourself there aren't many hispanic vocaloid, they should have taken the occasion to make something big out of it or completely different and implement a new genre of vocaloid.

I just listened to the demo for one of Cyber Diva's original songs titled "Athena" and it sounds really good. I can't wait to see what new songs and voice banks are in store for the future of Vocaloid.

Here Cyber Diva is the average canon of Vocaloids, I even made her more curvy than the average. On the contrary Ruby really is chubby considering the "normal" in Vocaloids

Even so I wouldn't call her chubby. Chubby refers to a specific weight and not as a modifier to a given weight. Heavier would have been a more accurate word, perhaps.
