I'm having A LOT of trouble though. I think my learning disability I had really bad when I was learning to read.

Well....I've been using this technique for like two days now and its really helpful on my case actually.

._. Just surround yourself in the language. If you don't understand something, copy it, or look it up in a dictionary, and somehow whenever you see it again I just know it.

^_^ <3 That is the best way to learn. Seeing words in context. There is no way to remember kanji if you're going to just drill everything in your head through heisig's method or others similar. There is no better way of learning the word other than seeing the kanji in its natural environment and whether in that environment you use the onyomi or kunyomi reading..
