Ages ago I drew something similar, I though it was about time I did it again because I should be able to do it better. It's also because I have to practice the proportion of girls. I'm not sure how that came out, part of the challenge is keep the proportions of the body while still showing the proper age (in particular the length of the legs in relation to the body, I think it would be weird if the legs were half the body length at young age and become much longer later, but still legs have to be chubby on kids...).
The background lines is to get an idea of the proportions in heads (although the size of the head changes...)

Anyway, I think it's a good time to talk about her background, to explain the cloths and body language:
- At a very young age she lost her parents but she barely remember the details of how it happened. All she remembers was a huge senseless attack by group of goblins. One can only imagine what that does to a child.

- Fortunately she was found by elves. She was adopted by them and grew in the forest in a village of elves. She didn't have an easy time at first. Being the only human and what she lived through made her a shy and very reserved girl.

- But time heals all wounds, humans are adaptable and resilient. She will always have a dark side but she learned to be happy again.

- Unfortunately humans and elves develop differently. While elves have the luxury of living virtually an eternity, humans have a lifetime that is way too short. That means the elves mature much more slowly, so despite the effort of her adopted family, the time came for Ariel to return to live among humans. Her new adopted family were regular villagers and for some time it seemed she would grow up to be an ordinary girl. But either from her background or for where she grew up, she showed a certain affinity with magic.

- Natural ability helps, but when it comes to magic it's not enough. Many sacrifices have to be made. Long hours studying leave little time for anything else. Those that can't get used to the monastic discipline will never get to anything. And even after the formal instruction period ends the young magician can only produce the most basic effects.

- But if you endure, the magician that reaches magic of the third circle can finally see the sacrifice pay. That is when Ariel really came out, like a butterfly liberated from her cocoon.

- Finally, that is how she is now. Fully developed, mature and wise, her unlimited potential is hers to conquer.
