Description I do so much greyscale copic marker work, I thought I would post a color marker piece I just completed, just to show I *can*. This is pretty much a straight 1920s/30s pinup thing, but there was so much, I don't know, joy in the works of artists like Petty and Elvgren.

11x14, Copic markers & white ink.

This'll be the cover of a sketchbook of mine, and I plan to have the original art above for sale at Heroes Con if anyone wants to stop by and buy it.

Huh... well that's a curios spazzyface expression she's got there... nice classically captured costume though, though I also wonder why her utility belt is so loose...

Sweet. I love everything about this one. What kind of white ink?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

RichardCox In reply to ckinfinite [2010-05-11 14:47:50 +0000 UTC]

A white acrylic ink. I use a small brush to apply in strokes or dabs. It's very thin, so I let it set a bit before I start working with it, or apply multiple coats.

Very cool. I'd been using small dabs of white acrylic paint, and then white charcoal pencil, but I'm loving your results with the ink. I shall have to try.

I think it's gorgeous. Your color marker work is phenomenal. The layered color on her cape and Bat symbol really make her pop off the page. It gives her a real sense of dimension. The blacks and "shine" are perfect, and it looks like it has a real texture.

My only nit picking comment would be her mouth. It's either too stylized to go with the rest of her or too big. Something just seems a little off with it.

All that gibberish aside - It's beautiful. I wish I was going to Heroes Con, so I could buy it!

Your welcome..and please do! I love your color work. I know you do commissions...but are you open to full color ones like that? My girlfriend would LOVE that Batgirl or something like it... (course I wouldn't mind it either )

RichardCox In reply to liquidhavok [2010-04-24 20:05:57 +0000 UTC]

I'd be happy to discuss a color commission. Contact me after Heroes Con, since I'm not going to have the time to work on anything unrelated to the show until then.

Your color, line work and composition are pretty good but the anatomy needs some work. Most noticeably around the hips. Her hands are a little manish as well.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

RichardCox In reply to ScathSiorai [2010-04-20 11:59:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I honestly don;t see the anatomy problem around the hips, but you are right about the hands-- I was my own hand model and I guess it shows.

this is way awsome man love the colour change up too! question about copics. would you say they're the best you can get, or does brand even make a differnce?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

RichardCox In reply to seanpt [2010-04-20 11:58:16 +0000 UTC]

I doubt anyone would argue with me that Copics are definitely the best markers on the market, and brand here actually does make a difference. They are really great. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and they're not cheap. You could also search on youtube or Google and find some good comparisons and tutorials. The sketch card group here on DA (linked to in my profile somewhere under groups...) also have some tutorials that might be helpful

awesome! thanks man. yeah currently i'm using letrasette pro (not sure if i mentioned it before) and i deffinitly see a difference in the final product as far as colour gradiant transitioning and overall quality when compared with pieces that have been done with copics, so i may have to make a switch when i get some dough to do so
