Okay, so I mentioned that I wanted to do a color cycle, but I was only half serious until I saw the theme for the pixiv Grand Prix, immediately after writing that.
Anywho, the GP conveniently outlines seven colors, so I think hey, why not. Seven colors, seven mages, each a specialist of sorts; I had some ideas floating in my head for a while now anyway. So this marks the first in the series proper, a redesign of my old Magicka fanart. I ditched the cloak and changed the accent color to gold, and gave her some snazzy skirt-tails. The pointy stick and pointy hat stay though; they go well with the pointy ears. The overall layout is a tribute to the Agarest character profiles; originally I wanted an action shot in the back panel, but that would put it squarely in the "way too crowded" category.

After struggling for several hours to come up with a name, I settled on Kaleina. Why? Because I like K names, and it was nice to hit a name that actually rolls off the tongue nicely after pronouncing all sorts of strange letter combinations.

She uses, of course, lightning magic, and is best suited to bolting the ever-loving crap out of single targets at very long ranges--a sniper, more or less, insofar as that applies to mages. I pondered the technical points of aiming and firing a lightning bolt from a staff for a while, and decided that whatever method she used she should at least have some way to see that far. And thus the tattoo under her right eye, signifying an ability to "scope" to great distances, kind of like magical tunnel vision. Magic sure is convenient, isn't it. That and I like eye marks.
I imagine the high-powered lightning magic she casts would have appreciable wind-up time, so mid-range targets pose a problem. Close range isn't ideal either, but that blade isn't just for show.
Normally she's fairly upbeat, not terribly genki but pretty spirited; she can get pretty srsbsns when srsbsns calls, particularly as tracking a target at 500ft with her eye requires some intense focus. Very much like Fujibayashi Kyou actually, now that I think about it. It'd be a bolt to the face for anybody who messes with her hat; she's quite fond of the hat.

Despite all this, I don't really think I can call her an OC just yet, she'd need some more development. And a setting. Maybe I'll get to that if I finish all seven.
