Description I guess I should change the title to Hello Spring, but I did draw this guy back in Autumn. It's totally the wrong season, either way :'D
A bit of colouring practice that ended up with a weird kinda flat, solid look to it. Does anyone else find red super hard to work with? And green...and anything that isn't blue/purple :')Β

Here's a bunch of process pics! You can see I have no idea what I'm doing half the time :'D

Red IS super hard to work with - says me with the fiery coloured character - but you've done beautifully here! I don't think it's flat at all and I am in awe of how you worked the green in without it looking christmassy or garish because I have never managed that yet! The details in the fur and scales are just delicious <3

Reds are tough but sometimes they're fun too. Either way this looks fabulous. Always love your works. Very fun and colorful.

I'm not so sure about flat, but Solid I can see. I think this looks great regardless. I'd never know you had trouble working with any colors.

Adore your work Would you consider selling these as prints? Xx

Thank you! Ah, I've never looked into it...man, I'd be the worst business person :'D I don't even know how to take scans without the picture turning out absolutely massive, and I probably lose quality when I resize (to 35%!) I'm a total tech dinosaur, I should probably educate myself :')

I do sell all my originals, though! This one would be Β£40. I think I will look into prints and things a bit more, I can't really say I know how to make money from art at the moment :'D

Do you have an Etsy store or online store somehwere? I'l love to nab one of your originals when I have the chance Xx

Not even that :') I just mention on dA sometimes when I have a few originals lying about. I only have Goodbye Summer (Β£40) andΒ Traveller Β (Β£20) at the moment. I'll start mentioning on submissions/in journals when things are for sale!
How do you find using Etsy, if you don't mind my asking?

It was really good at first, as everyone seemed to get a chance when it came to being on the front page. But their website changed and now it's not as easy. It's still a very good site to use as it's only 20p listing charge and a small persentage I think? I've been selling steady on there for two years now, but I have other forms of income through sites like RedBubble and DesignbyHumans, I recon your work would go down very well on RedBubble I make most of my profits from them Xx

Whoa this is very beautiful, as always ahhh... I wish i had good advice on how to push the darks, but it's like, a lot of trial and error ahaha;; I'd say keep with the blues and purples, but maybe add to it with colored pencil or inks or even watercolor pencil. That will push the darks a lot.

Also pushing the highlights too. Like making very vivid whites on more than just your white outlines. I do this with colored pencil, acrylics, and gel pen. It'll help add to the depth of things...

You can always go in digitally and adjust the levels and saturation too. I use the GIMP for that because it's free and free is good.

Those are just some ideas, I have only minimal knowledge of your process from your walkthroughs but those are some things I do. Hope it helps! <3

Ricefish In reply to RowanNorth [2016-03-06 18:19:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, I think inks are definitely something I need to try, since I already use my darkest watercolours and pencils. And digital editing for sure. You're right, it's just gonna be down to trial and error and I gotta try taking a few risks! <3

I bet this dragon moves around in the most ceremonious way possible just to show off its beauty.

TRAVELER: "Pardon me, dragon, which way to the forest?"

DRAGON: *flexing like a bodybuilder* "That way." *winks*
