My art block is still in full swing, but I couldn't figure out how to write a ton for this.

Chinook walked through the forest, enjoying the mid day sunshine. The tree leaves dappled the light as it reached the ground, but it warmed his back nonetheless. Though he was beginning the trek into unknown territory, Chinook felt cheerful and hopeful for what lay ahead. His raven companion, Indigo, rustled his feathers from his perch on Chinook's back and cawed indignantly. Without realizing it, Chinook's good mood had brought him to a trot, making it more difficult for Indigo to keep hold. Calling an apology over his shoulder to the bird, the stallion slowed to a walk again.

The forest was peaceful, and Chinook took some time to relax and enjoy himself. He felt the warm sun on his back, and listened to the soft birdsong from the canopy above. Though he considered himself to be a mountain horse at heart, Chinook really did love the forest and all its beauty.

Without warning, Chinook came to a sudden halt, sending Indigo sliding into his neck and squawking with annoyance. Out of the beautiful birdsong and rustling leaves, he heard a noise that didn't seem to belong with the peaceful forest sounds. Chinook's cheerful mood dissipated, replaced by a creeping anxiety. His ears were tuned to the sound, which happened again, somewhat louder this time. Was that a growl? A whimper? A sneeze? Chinook couldn't tell, and it put him on edge. Taking cautious steps forward, he decided to investigate the source.

Chinook is going through the forest with his Raven friend, the sun dapples on his back making him feel quite warm and comfortable. He then his ears flickers to a soft nose, he's not sure if it was a whimper, a wine or just a shaky breath, but it was not made by the surrounding trees.
