Description

I have been having fun trying to learn how to do 2D landscape art in Photoshop.  I like how it has ended up but have quite a bit more to learn so that I can add more realism to it and move it towards 3D landscape paintings.

I have used three stock images from the awesome jean52 to create the silhouetted 'city',

www.deviantart.com/jean52/art/…

www.deviantart.com/jean52/art/…

and the waterfall is from www.deviantart.com/perfections…

Everything else was done in photoshop.

I wasnt even really sure how to categories this...

Ok silhouetted.....but in reality this is an exercise to show differents extremely important concepts...one of these is relative the topic "atmospheric perspective" and the second this an extremely perfect "depth map" ready to be used in combination with lens blur

So I assume I use lens blur to enhance the depth?  I didnt think of that, will give it a go and see if I understand the way to use it for this.

Well the Depth map in combination with Lens Blur create a gradual blur effect....from foreground till background or viceversa. What generate this?

------> "the various tonal gradations"

In the last manip i created a specific and personal depth map. Black areas = less blur or blur absent. Neutral areas with various gradiations generate a gradual blur. Personally i don't like those tutorials where the depth map destroy shapes.

I prefear leave shapes still visible because less destructive. Of course when finished, with the mask you are free to refine some specific point as you want.
