Description The United Federation of Planets Starship. The USS ARTEMIS, Investigates the mysterious dissapearance of a Federation Colony and Research Outpost in the Sigma Aurora star system. The Presence of a persistant Gas Cloud comprised of exotic gases and unusual aligned carbon filaments, as well as some very unusual and repeating dreams by the colonists on the Planet Maland (the larger of the 2 M-Class planets seen here) had been thought to be possible evidense of a gas bases, intelligent lifeform either living in the cloud, or perhaps the cloud itself was a sentient life form. To study this amazing theory, an outpost had been established on the low gravity, but terrestrial planet the orbits Maland, Know as Moonchilde, this interesting planet is home to an abundance of delicate and beautiful life forms that have evolved on the tiny planet.
Because of Moonchilde low EM radiantion and limited magnetosphere, and also it's comfortable distance from the colonists on Maland, it was chosen as the site to build the research outpost to study the possiblilty of life and intelligents existing within the gas cloud.

Sigma Aurora is situated far from the protected border of the Federation. The distant human colony had been established 20 years before the Federation-Borg conflicts, and though it is well within the theorised path of likely Borg incursions into Federation controled space. the mysterious gas cloud had hidden the planets from detection and hense the borg had bypassed the system. never knowing a thriving colony existed.
The Borg Conflict long over, life had returned to normal for the colony. And serious research had finally begun on the Gas Cloud. And then, all contact was lost. No emergency communications or Signs of an attack had been recieved or showed up on the long range sensor arrays strategically placed along this potential invasion route. So a nearby Vulcan Starsip, the T'vaal, had been asked to investigate. It too has dissapeared without a trace.

So, Starfleet Command has dispatched the USS Atemis to the scene to find out what new threat has reared is head far from the Federation.
Thus in the cold darkness of the unknown, The Artemis Hunts....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The U.S.S. ARTEMIS was an advanced warship design created within the same program as the U.S.S. DEFIANT. Though the design parimeters called for a Starship able to aggressively engage, and win, against a future Borg invasion. The Atremis program went some steps futher, and the designers targeted more wildly thoeretical weapons designs and tactical needs for fighting an enemy able to adapt quickly, and possibly having unknown capabilities.
The Artemis program went far over its time allowances and was not finished until shortly after the USS Enterprise had returned from it's journey into the past to defeat the Borg Attempt at Stopping the Terrans First Contact with the Vulcans.
Subsequent incidents and the political climate within the Federation led to even more urgent need for a small, fast warship able to take on a wide variety of serious threats to the Federation. Both from known adversaries and those as yet unknown.
So, the Artemis Program was given a high priority and more freedom to go well beyond accepted limits in weapons and tactical equipment thus far imposed on Federation ship designs.

The end result. The Artemis is a Transwarp Vessel. it's warp System is a more stable and reliable version of the USS Excelsiors finicky Warp system. The Artemis is capable of sustained Warp 12 speeds. And her warp core is of a new "Dual Core" design that produces extraordinary amounts of power in a reliable and compact Power Plant.
Her twin Torean/Andor 26x Warp Nacels are smooth and tested reliable, with vastly increased capacity for adjustments to the warp field.
She has a unique repair system, comprised of 'Micro-Bots' that are offshoots of studies of Borg Technology, this system allows the Artemis to repair itself rapidly and completely even in the heat of intense combat. A true neccesity for a vessel with limited crew.
In addition to her new Nested Shield System, which allows two deflector shield to operated in tandem, one within the other, She also has a new energy absorbing hull plating that absorbs and rechanels an energy beam attack into her own weapons or defense system. Energy not absorbed can be dissipated around the entirety of the hull itself. Reducing any damage taken by 50%

The Artemis has four Impulse Drives that allow her an unparalleled agility and speed at implulse speeds. She handles like a fighter and has an advanced Inertial compensation field as well as a new Structural Integrity Field that increases the weak nuclear bonds between the molecules of her structural supports, Binding them strongly and yet still allowing for some needed flexability. Because of her ability to perform high energy turns and fast manouvers. Her pilot and Helm controls are manually interactive and a neuro-interface is provided for her pilot to totally interface with the helm controls.
Two back up Core Fusion Thrusters and auxilary chemical thrusters are also installed.

Her weapons systems are 4 Quantum Torpedo Launchers, each able to fire directly in 360 degrees along the forward to aft arcs. as well as 2 to port and 2 Starboard. 9 Variable Frequency Phasers allow for a wide variety of attacks along a wide range of the EM spectrum. Rapid Frequency Modulation allows for the phasers to avoid a Borg Ship adjusting it's sheilds to nullify the phasers attacks.
The main weapon of the Artemis is it's Quantum Anhilator. Commonly reffured to as a Mauler Cannon by the technitions who tested it. The Mauler Cannon fires a partical stream of heavy neutrons that are out of phase within the quantum universe and thier passage through any normal matter causes an instant debonding of atomic cohesion, Disintegrating matter into it's basic atoms. Often violently. The beam of anti-phased particles passes through subspace, and is unaffected by energy shields or screens. Only mass with cause it to interact with normal space. Thus, armor is somewhat effective against the Mauler Cannon, But shields or Dampening fields are useless.

The Artemis is outfitted with the largest variety of sensors of any Federation vessel. And many of these are specially designed to detect cloaked or sensor jammed vessels. To date, the Cloaking Sensors have been able to detect any know cloaking system at long range. The Artemis is a Huntress, and there is no hiding from her.

The crew compliment of the Artemis is only 24. She has little room for extra passengers or supplies. Though she is equiped with a state of the art medical facility, 1 Holodeck (small) and a few lounges and rec rooms. Here cargo bay is small. But two large shuttle bays are sized for two Odessy class Shuttles, though it is a tight fit.
Full Replication facilities are abundant throughout. And an integral part of her self repair system.

The 'Downside' to this class is the simple fact that it IS more delicate and complex then the Defiant Class Warship. It cannot take the massive abuse and damage a Defiant could in combat. But it does repair itself pretty fast. So a hit and run strategy is optimal for this class. Though, such a strategy might well play to a Borgs advantage.
This is one reason the Defiant Class Warship is favored heavily by the Federation. It is also much easier to produce in numbers then the Artemis class is.

8 Atremis class ships have been built to date. Yet all have been stationed along two of the Federation Borders on Picket patrols that leave them isolated from normal Federation ship Patrols and Planets. The bulk of the Artemis class ships are situated along the Border with the Delta Quadrant, in expectation of another Borg incursion. But two ships have been stationed in low detection points near the Bajor. Assigned to watch for any future threats from the Gamma Quadrant. This dispersion of these warships does help maintain thier High Secrecy, but also places then much to far away to quickly respond to any new surprise the Federation might encounter as it expands into new frontiers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, there is a right up from Hell
Can't spell for spit....
I know, she is WAY to WOW in her snazzy new weapons and equipment. But I figure the next "Star Trek" Series will have some nasty even worse then the Borg showing up to calousley attack our Peace Loving Federation. So, This hottie is for all you Trekkie Role Players and Wargamers who might want a nasty lil ship to take on any potential new evilness.

Hey, Coming from you that is a very nice compliment amigo. Thanks! I am happy you like her

BTW, your stuff is pretty sweet also! You have really mastered the Bryce backgrounds to create some breathtaking landscapes n planets. And your vessels are wonderful

Well, I think it's way cool. I always dig how your designs actually make sense in and of themselves.

Oh, and I should probably tell you that the guy for which I'm "running" (more "babysitting") the rehearsal space just saw that I was looking at the picture, and loudly stated, "Now THAT is a picture I like to see on a computer."

Seriously.

Opps, before I neglect to mention it. I got TONS of "Great Background Here!" comments, even from those not liking my ship (I added the yellow lighting from the star there for trueism and it went over like a brick )

Which Shows many folks do not read the write-ups, as they seemed to think I did it, corrected them naturally. But it shows how Enjoyable people find your Magic, even when they don't know it is your skilled hand at work

gppr [2008-03-09 19:29:49 +0000 UTC]

Nice design, rfalk. I particularly like the front of it. Maybe if you adjusted the overall hue of the ship to make it more blue/cyan, it would match the background's tone a little more. But maybe it is just my monitor that makes me see the ship a little more yellowish...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rfalk In reply to gppr [2008-03-10 00:47:41 +0000 UTC]

No, it's the addition of the yellow light that is mimicing the visible star that does that.... Sheesh. teach me to try and make the lighting true

gppr In reply to rfalk [2008-03-10 01:45:15 +0000 UTC]

You know, you're right, rfalk. The clouds in the bg is perhaps what should reflect that yellowish/orangy glow, and then they would also match the ship's lighting.

rfalk In reply to gppr [2008-03-10 01:58:14 +0000 UTC]

I just stole the background from Moonchilde-stock. So I can claim no control over it and get away with it

I knew I was taking a risk with the dimness n off color the lighting forced. So your comment was not totally unexpected Amiga. I am happy you always have that sharp eye for us to learn n perfect our techniques with

It's weird bro. Some of them are saying thing associated with the lighting and texture (affected by said lighting) and they are the ones who occasionally mentioned my lighting was not true enough. which, in this case it IS as true as possible.
Other just think it aint cool and complex enough for the Trekverse.... So I guess I am doomed to second rate hack-dom....
Not sure why these particular comments hurt so much. I usually take crits with serious contemplation, but no angst. But... I feel... hmmmm... really bad now.... wonder why?!?

The ship design is really great, but itΒ΄s textures need some serious maintenance. The parabolic thingy at the bottom of the ship is a good start. The shipΒ΄s hull is looking too monochromatic.
I am just a noob up to now for things like this, but a bump map would already help a lot, i think. I am bungling on texturing quite a time and i know it ainΒ΄t easy

It is okay ExPac. I simply cannot do ships like the guys with good programs and big puters. So, I do what I can.
