Description don't shoot me for the title, idkkkk.
So, this is a piece I made for the contest over at . The point was to make a picture using green blue and black. It's hard to tell, but the tree really is black, just with different color highlights
Anyways, it's a cute picture, which doesn't really match most of the club entries, but I figured it was worth a shot Wish me luck!

i love fairies...not to mention dragons...

Certaintly one of your more "cutesy" pieces, but I do like it!

To start, I like the color scheme but I feel like there should be more contrast and variation in shades and hues in the grass. It just looks kind if plain towards the bottom of the painting.

I LOVE the tree. The angle, the colors, and the lighting are all done wonderfully.
The dragon is drawn very well proportionally (though the head looks to be a little small) and the lighting and shading is done perfectly!
One thing about the dragon that bothers me is the lack of texture. When I think 'dragon' I see scales. Here, I feel what looks like fur. (which could be intentional, if so I appologize)

On the ground below the dragon I think there should be distinct heavy shadowing under the head and neck. I see sone shadows but I don't think it is even close to being dark enough.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sky and clouds! Keep in mind that the sky has shading and highlights as well. The clouds on the right should probably have some light on the sides and bottom as it appears that's where your light source is coming from.

And lastly the little bugs. As cute as they are, I wish they were a little more detailed e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>

Very nice piece! <3

Ooh my, I love it! I love the composition and the idea, the tree and the anatomy of the dragon!
Yet, let me give you some suggestions: While I think you really did lovely on the tree, the flowers look a bit carelessly set into the picture, not given a second thought. The sky could be in another tone of blue – just google some skies and you’ll see a different blue and black and you can believe me, real world skies are something really amazing if you take a closer look! Also, if you make the sky darker, your lovely little fairies will shine more and will look fantastic. Believe it or not this is old artist knowledge.
This is all I can say about it now. It’s a really nice piece and was hard to think of something to critique, but now it’s done and I still love it. Thank you for sharing your art with us!

Utterly charming. The soft nature of the piece is well emphasized by the smoothness of the image, and lack of intricate detailing. It feels as though one could be carried away into a fairy tale by this image.

It seems one of our Dragons has taken a shine to it as well!

We have only stated what we feel about the piece. We are serious suckers for both Dragons and the 'Fairy Tale' feel, so this image is just perfect for us.

And thank you! for the kindness of checking out our gallery! We are so delighted you found images you enjoyed as well. Keep up the wonderful work!

Dear Lauren,
I would like to critique, however I am not a member so I am unable to do that. I would like to point out that I am a fan of the Golden Snitches fliying about, the only problem is that Harry Potter or perhaps another seeker from Slytherin or even Ravenclaw are not present in said picture. I would advise that next time you draw multiple Golden Snitches, you add a seeker or they will never be caught.
Also, the Whomping Willow is being too friendly with the dragon, is there a reason that the tree is not 'whomping' on it? It just doesn't make sense. Where is the cave that leads to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmade?? Please, dear, if you are going to draw the Whomping Willow do not forget the cave. I beleive that concludes this critique, I hope that you make the propper adjustments, and get back to me when you have. You are a very talented drawer, or 'Wand Waver' if you will, but you seem to have forgotten to add quite a bit. If you have trouble reading this message in the light, don't forget to Lumos it.
Best Regards, J.K. Rowling

Ms Rowling,
Thank you so much for taking the time to post a critique of my work. You've pointed out the most obvious flaws, which I in my simple mind would never have noticed. Thank you for the enlightenment, I will be sure to correct this.
Sincerely,
Lauren

cute dragon but the tree should be a bit more smooth

revois In reply to adarwen [2011-07-12 19:43:46 +0000 UTC]

I have never seen a smooth tree haha. How would you suggest doing that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

adarwen In reply to revois [2011-07-12 20:06:19 +0000 UTC]

for example now you have a lot of lines in your tree if you use more types of brown that are very close to each other in tone it would look a lot smoother softer
