Thanks a lot1
The background slab of the plaque is around 5mm to 8mm thick I think, and then the rest of the sculpt builds up from there. The thickest part is the hand and sleeve which if I can remember correctly got to be around 25mm in places.
I'd recommend having a go at relief sculpting, this was the first time I attempted anything like it and I really enjoyed the process.....it looks simple but you have to keep thinking of ways of implying depth without actually sculpting a completely 3D figure. Have fun!

Incredible. It almost moreso has the feel of a drawing than a sculptured relief. I'm really amazed at your technique. Great subject matter too! Love the oldies. And he was the most bad ass of them all.

Thanks, when sculpting this sort of thing it feels a bit like a combination of both drawing and sculpting at the same time...Karloff is one of my heroes from way back and had such a great face full of character. It was a real labour of love for me to try and capture that great face in clay.

I can really see that. And I completely agree, he was a master.

Yes it's certainly a challenging technique to get to grips with....I struggled at first but eventually managed to a result that I was happy with.
Cheers!
