Clipping the leash to her dogs collar April got ready for her job. Stepford had limited money earning positions for women but even Stepford hadn't quite eliminated her entrepreneurial instinct that had earned her a fortune and enemies before Stepford.
Her dog walking business was a swell little business she could run for 3-4 hours a day fitting around her homemaking duties. Of course she also was helping her neighbour Suzy's dress making business by wearing her creations while she walked the dogs around the town as advertising. It had done so well that she was now employing other women to assist. All impeccably turned out of course. Her neighbour Suzy loved having different women as living mannequins showing off her creations in the best light. The advertising had her order books filled by women who's sewing skills were not as good as hers or often men who wanted Suzy to outfit their wives with a dress for a special occasion or sometimes a whole new wardrobe.
There had been murmurs of disquiet amongst the more conservative men of the town but the sight of pretty tiny waisted women in full skirts tottering along in heels beside their dogs quashed any doubts about women getting ideas above their station.
April reflected on how her life had changed since been brought to Stepford. Her old life of business woman working in drab offices in drab buildings in drab outfits had been traded for happy housewife with a lovely home and a wonderful husband and an oh so pretty wardrobe. Then she got to run a small business that got her outdoors in the fresh air in the prettiest of dresses and was paid for the privledge... She put her mind to work to think of a new fun way to thank her husband.
