Description (Not sure if this is the right category, best I could find though.)

The enchanted rose from the Beauty and the Beast fairytale -- here it is in the vinyl dome that my father helped me make (he sewed it while I ran around in tiny circles, panicking that we only had 10 minutes until the deadline!)

(One of my entries into the Crammed Organisms 2008 show)

Can't stop watching the silly faces in your icon, hehe!

I'm so jealous you live in the same state as the CO shows! I don't even live in the same country Definitely go check them out! There's 3 left to be had, and each one has extra activities as well as just the plushie exhibit!

If you're interested in more pics and details about the show, check out my entry on my craft blog at [link] or their site [link] organisms.com

lol, thanks (for the icon comment).

wow, yeah, i hadn't looked at your main page. Australia.. that's REALLY far to travel, but it's cool that you're in it in spite of that.

Yeah, I plan on seeing it with a friend, probably. I'm pretty psyched about the whole thing. I'm so surprised I hadn't hear of it already! Thanks for the links, too.

Also, question: is just for professional/well-known artists? or rather, are those pretty much the only people that get in? because I would love to enter.. but, i'm pretty much a semi-beginner. Just wondering.

You're like... amaaazing.

Yeah, I had about a week and a half to make 4 plushies because I needed the rest of the time for them to be in-transit as they shipped across the ocean. Ouch! And then about 3 days before I had to mail them off, I redesigned all of them and had to start again. I wouldn't recommend that AT ALL!

Crammed Organisms is closed for submissions for 2008 (these are the 2008 shows on now) but definitely definitely enter next year! I checked out your gallery and your stuff is so cute! And definitely up to the standard they look for. (It's a juried show, which means you apply and they choose who is a part of the show). I just started sewing January this year so I'm hardly a professional, and I'm definitely not a well-known artist, so I say go for it! You're a shoe-in

eek, that would make me nervous to have to cut it that close! lol but wow, you made them in 3 days? gosh..

yeah, i looked at the 'apply' page and i was like... aww man.. that stinks.
but as soon as they post the theme for next year, i'll be sewing like crazy.

ooooOMG!! you've only been sewing for 6 months!?!? you are like reeeeallly good. really good. wow.

see, i could sew a bit better, but i'm not that creative and i have trouble making patterns and stuff from scratch. if i practice more, of course i'll get better. the other thing is i'm really impatient and don't have a lot of time anyway, so if i make a mistake, i just kind of.. let it go. lol. so my stuff looks a bit lumpy, whereas yours is pretty and smooth. but i think with summer break ill have more time, and i'll actually try to make things PERFECT.

anyway, thanks for the encouragement, i will definitely apply for next year. i would be really excited to get out in the st.louis art scene.

A good place to start is making softies from someone else's pattern - that way they've worked out all the kinks for you! [link] sells some lovely (and easy to follow) softie patterns! Pattern drafting is my least-favourite part too.

As for them being lumpy - I couldn't see any lumps! But some tips I learnt (the hard way!) is to use small pieces of stuffing when stuffing them, to avoid pushie celulite, and also to clip your seams if you're making anything round. (Clipping seams is where you clip them like this |_|_|_|_|_|_| so that they'll make a curve better when they're forced to curve).

Now go make some more so I can see!

lol, yeah, using pre-made patterns is a good idea.. the link is wonderful. it just takes a looong time to get a pattern right on your own.

ha, they're a bit lumpy. they mostly don't look as good as yours because they've got pills in the fleece.. they look all worn. because i take them around with me to places.

that's a good tip. i always tried to stuff with big pieces. sometimes when you have doll-type-thing that are all in one piece (like aloysius/serena) and you use small pieces, it kind of separates at the 'joints'. but i shall use small pieces from now on. because.. i trust your judgement more than mine. lol.
i know about clipping seams already. sometimes i forget to do it though..

ha, i'll try to make some stuff this summer. i usually don't have much time to do sewing. i'll probably try to incorporate some into art class this year.

i made a dress about a year ago, but it was from a pattern that i bought. do you think i should put it on DA anyway?

and also, it's winter where you live, right? how's that going?

I think you should definitely upload pictures of the dress you made, even though it wasn't your own pattern. You still crafted it and made it your own! Plus, I wanna see!

It's only just become winter down here and already it's freezing! I have to thaw the ice off my window before I can drive for work! (I drive a bus as a day job) It's going to suck when it starts snowing up the mountain we drive up. How is summer for you?

ok, i shall put up pictures as soon as i find the time.

ick.. ice. i'm tired of that for now. we had lots this winter.
summer is good! i actually have *gasp* A TAN! wow. that never happens.
it's been around 80-90 degrees fahrenhiet (i don't know what that is in celcius), but it's really humid where i live, so it can be a bit icky. but, it rains almost every day lately, which i love.

i went to a camp last summer and i had a counselor from australia. she was really funny and a bit nervous about driving on the other side of the road (and really bad at it ). we had arguments about whether raisins were sultanas or raisins and whether or not vegemite was good or not. she also enjoyed having 3 summers in a row: at home, in the us, and at home again. lucky!

90 fahrenheit is like 35 celcius here and that's some nasty heat. Summer kills me so much; I'm definitely a winter girl! When I went to visit my fiance (in Oregon) I had the 3 summers deal, ick. Driving on the other side of the road really felt very weird too! Especially going around corners - I kept wanting to turn into MY side of the road, oops.

PS: vegemite rules.
