Description Just some work form my Environments & Props class this quarter.
We had free reign on the subject matter of this assignment, so I decided to create an environment for a graphic novel that I've been writing, which is set in early 2050's Hong Kong. Also if you've been there, some of the buildings in the image are existing structures today.
I tried to keep it logical and functional--so sorry, no flying cars, if anybody's dissappointed!

Digitally inked the architecture, drew the figures and cars by hand, then composited and screen toned with a dissolve layer in PS (nice new trick)

Awesome. Love the ΓΌperspective, the charater looks very 80s cyberpunk, and no flying cars! I'm no fan of flying cars myself. Lots of attention to detail too, like the graffitti on the charge plugs.

Will this Graphic Novel be published?

Wow!!! Somebody still remembers! You're officially awesome now, by the way
And yes it's the same idea I've been working on, but Ive changed the title and am finally scripting it now. It's also been through about 4 drafts lol. Been a loooong time.

HYPERLATE REPLY ALERT!

haha thanks, I've been watching you since way back since (and was sad when you took it down). Actually I'll add that since I saw that sample, I got serious about comic art haha.

So glad you're back at it though, you have a fan here waiting for its release...in the meantime I'll be in the lab myself.

you should look into doing background layout for the animation biz if you're interested. This stuff looks great!

Oh I definitely am interested in working in animation. I'll go for anything that is animation/ games/ comics in general, whatever comes by me!

And thanks!

Nice perspectives! I figure that even in the far flung future, flying cars will be a rarity due to greater cost and lack of need. Unless we end up like Fifth Element and have a huge ground layer of smog from hell, it'll just be easier and safer to keep people on the ground.

Yeah, I agree and I've been telling everyone who asks- I think people already have enough trouble driving in TWO dimensions, flying cars just seems like a death wish.
Also, worst comes to worst, we could always build roads above the smog!

Yeah, ninety-year-olds with flying cars? Scary. Not to mention that your first break-down would likely be your last.

Smashing!
Two things: If the top frame was by itself, I'd think you would need to fake in a bit more of the motorcycle. It's a bit tough to tell what it is (bionic knee?) by the handle alone.
And a bit more texture would be nice on the translucent overhang for the bottom panel. It's value now ( and the almost-tangent edge to her hair ) make the character feel like she's standing on top of it. Messes me up as she's in perspective with everything else. Tricky stuff, transparency.
But who am I to critique?
