Description First of all, the photo I referenced can be found here: [link] I suggest checking =Tigg-stock out, as they have some pretty awesome stock pictures.

This is a pretty momentous painting. It is the first piece of art I've finished in an incredibly long time. It is my first finished acrylic painting, and it is my first bird of prey painting.

Painting this was incredibly fun, albeit tedious and frustrating. The feathers were hell, especially the wing feathers. I really enjoyed painting the beak, background and head; however, painting the eye was my favorite thing.

I do wish I had been able to airbrush the background. It turned out quite blotchy, although I still like the background.

Anyway, this is a painting for my mom for Mother's Day. It was quite rushed, since I started off making her a dragon sculpture, but changed my mind. I'm still going to finish the sculpture, but that will be a personal project, not a gift (although I may make it a father's day present, not sure)

Next project will definitely be something easier.

I didn't really count the hours, but I think I worked on it about 2 hours a night for about a week and a half.

One word. BEAUTIFUL. The textures of the feathers must have taken so long, but they create the look of a real bird. I love the various colors you used for different parts, making each stand out. And of course the eye is amazing and incredibly realistic.

The details are magnificent..... The amount of effort that must've gone into this is amazing. I cannot draw feathers to save my life, and you make it look so effortlessly smoothed into the composition.... I especially love the eye, as well.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought this was a photograph. Then I saw the full view, and my jaw dropped. The detail you show here is absolutely amazing with spot-on realism.
