god i am finally finished with this thing. it started out like three weeks ago as another black and white experiment --actually this painting is the reason i still haven't finished the first one -- but then i got bored and threw some color on it and it went downhill really fast and then after a lot of experimentation and adjustment i got it back up to par. now it's pretty much not at all what it used to be.it was originally just her head, neck and shoulders, but then i got restless and expanded it. so her hair and face are kind of smooth and painty and then i reverted to my crosshatching method for the coat but changed it again to make the green corset thing more satin-y looking. i actually kind of like the weird discrepancy in textures.

This is gorgeous. I love the lips and hair especially. I think the background looks nifty as is. It starts off sort of chaotic and happy, much like rhetoric starts off (what with the stars and sly expression) and fades to colors similar to those found in her skirt. It feels kinda like the background is a reflection of her personality. If you absolutely had to change it, I think something off-green would look nice.
