It was. Nirvana also paved the road for both Green Day and Blink-182, amungst others that showed up in the post grunge boom.

i knew about green day. and you call it a post-grunge boom - the band themselves couldn't stand the term "grunge", about as much as mcr hate the term "emo" According to Dave, there were nothing more that college rock or something similar.

It was still a post grunge boom. There were others that died around the same time as Nirvana (bands not people) Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots (who are back together now, grunge is starting up again), Soundgarden...

Unfortunately, they were grunge. And bleach was defiantly grunge, but Nevermind and In Utero were more alt rock.

"grunge" is simply a term created by a newspaper for those types of band. I always say that it's up to the band themselves to say what genre they are.
