Description Challenge number One:
For your first challenge you will be designing couture and (regular...like Hanes) underwear - The theme for this challenge is to satisfy your sugar craving. They should be two seperate designs, but on the same sheet of paper, and they should seem like they could be seen together. Design inspired by sweet treats! Think of it as if you are doing a high class advertisements for sweet stuff, and your design is one of the selling points of the advertisement, so it has to reflect your candy treat. Think Lollipops, bonbons, licorice, donuts, hard candies, soft ones, chocolate or anything, gooey, syrupy, or sugar filled. I will assign you your treat, and that shall be your inspiration for the challenge.

I got peppermint, or in other words, candy cane

So obviously I used red and white. I created a similar pattern on the bodice of the dress, using white satin and red ribbons, lace, gauze and sequins. There's white laced ribbon on the edges of the bodice which is then tied up on the neck. The skirt is made of many layers of tulle, red and a few shades of brown. The mesh is made of white gauze. The back is open, I added to red satin ribbons to hold the top together.

The underwear is simple and white, I just added some red ribbons to make it more candy-cane-like and I also chose ruffles on the edges.

And white boots with a lace detail.

I'm not super excited about my design, red and white together..I need more colour But it turned out ok. Now let's wait for the judges to decide

Judges' commentary:
"We really like this design! It's clear from just the first glance what the inspiration for this was and we really like the whimsical look of the designs and that both the couture gown and ordinary undies are given equal attention. We also like how crisp and clean everything looks with the red & white colour scheme,a nd how nicely the addition of brown layers to the skirt of the gown gives it depth. The undies are sweet, and we like how the red stitching adds detail.
The gown does look a little childish with its tutu-hem and bow though, and we think it's the ribbon & lace decoration on the bodice that saves it from being too much of a ballet-princess dress."

I am a sucker for kickass boots, and those boots do indeed rock the proverbial house.

But the rest of the outfit is so good too, and your illustration style really makes it pop. God, what is with all the talent this cycle? D: None of us have a chance.

Love the dress. the underwear is a bit plain, in my view, I like the little straps on one side of the panties. But then the brief does say regular underwear so yay! well done ^_^

Love to hear that
I didn't want to make underwear too complicated, and it is a nice contrast to the dress which has a lot of details.

Actually I did that at the Phillipines ( I don't live there. ) There's people that can sew it for you. You just need to show them what you want.

Maybe some green could be incorporated in the designs... that's how I think of peppermint, especially sugar canes, like the ones you put on the Christmas Tree. Just a thought! I would definitely keep the red, it makes it more interesting than just plain white!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

red-spot In reply to FunkyLilith [2007-04-19 19:20:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...it sure would break the monotony. But what is done is done
We don't really have tradition to put candy canes on the christmas tree. I haven't even actually tried a candy cane before My first thought on peppermint was green bonbons with minty flavour. That's what a peppermint means in our country anyway
