Description Another old piece. This one's a tiny piece of an idea I have for a children's book. Hopefully I'll get around to actually writing it one of these days...

The original's for sale on my website: [link]

What a sweet drawing! I like the colours, the red of the geranium, the yellow of the coat, the brown leaves,... they all fit perfectly together! And the girl looks so happy. Really cute!

What do you use to make this? And how did you get the rain so well? It's just beautiful!

It's all acrylic and just a little bit of colored pencil. It was so long ago that I painted it that I don't really remember how I did the rain - it's probably just watered down acrylic painted lightly. Glad you like it!

I love how this has a happy feeling, even though it is a rainy pic. Makes me feel very nostalgic...

A published illustrator, that's cool! I can really see that, with the stuff you have put up here. It's really wonderful and full of imagination. Your art is like the illustrations from the books I liked best when I was little I love all those little details.
This may be a stupid question, but I have heard writers talk about their influences. I was wondering if as an illustrator, were you influence by other children's book illustrators?

Oh, and by the way, do you mind if I watch you? And periodically make lame comments on your pictures, such as ( wow great picture, really Beautiful, This is amazing )

Thanks so much!! Glad you like.

Yeah, I think I'm more influenced by contemporary children's and fantasy illustrators than by the great old fine art masters (although I like a lot of them too.) I like a lot of illustrators who do work that is really different from mine, like Trina Schart Hyman and Alan Lee. I am so in awe of them. There's really too many to name! We have a huge collection of children's books and Japanese books here, so a lot of different influences are coming from a lot of different places.

Watch away - All comments "lame" or otherwise are greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
