I believe that they never got stoned because they were both respected and well loved heroes in Israel and none of the Israelites (with the exception of King Saul and some of his few followers) believed that they deserved to die. Even if they did at the time harbor forbidden feelings for each other, they both served and protected Israel from their enemies the Philistines.
