Description On Armageddon, the wind doesn't blow- it sucks.

This is an M-Galaxy Pattern Lasrifle, or Lasgun, the standard issue weapon of the Imperial Guard. Individually Lasguns are considered some of the weakest weapons in Warhammer 40,000, in spite of the fact that they can blow a man's arm clean off. Regardless, the Guard's tactic of firing many thousands of these rifles at once has proven very effective.

This lasgun was made from a heavily cut down Nerf Recon CS-6. I filed down the raised details on the sides of the gun and stock, as well as cutting the accessory rails off the barrel and removing the internal components to lighten the prop. The covering around the chamber and stock is poster board, the interior of which corroded on contact with the hunter green krylon spray paint used on it. Interestingly, the metallic silver paint used on the body did not have the same effect, leading me to believe that the "Fusion" type of Krylon, that bonds to plastic, may be better to use on poster board in the future. Regardless, this issue did not have a major impact on the final appearance of the prop. The scope is an actual Daisy brand 2x magnification scope for air rifles, mounted on a handmade accessory rail so it can be removed and used elsewhere. The purity seal reads, "This con is unclean. PURIFY IT!"

This gun is to be used by my friend as part of his Imperial Guard costume to be used at PAX East 2012, in conjunction with my improved Commissar costume. By his insistence, this prop incorporates only a tiny amount of cardboard- namely the purity seal and aquila emblem.

personally, i think the Recon CS-6 would make a good las or bolt pistol, and the Longshot CS-6 wold make a better lasgun, but this is still a cool conversion.

This is a creditable production, but it seems to me that judging from its proportions the Recon is better suited to being made into a laspistol; it's a little too short to sell "lascarbine" effectively.

I would say the stock is definitely the roughest part of this piece. You've done a laudable job of trying to turn the flimsy Recon stock into a lasgun's distinctively shaped fixed stock, but it falls more than a little bit short; a touch too boxy, and looks like it got more than a touch beaten up in the assembly process. If you do another lasgun project in the future, I'd suggest using some extra TLC in that area next time.

It's partly due to the literal meltdown caused by the spray paint. The next one would have a more solid appearance, if nothing else.

That is a lot of work, and it shows. It is a totally different beast than the CS-6, with the cut down rails and bodywork. What did you use for the stock - is that part of a Longshot? I can't tell.

Also - you didn't mention it but it's on sling too! I love that. Functional and cool looking.

Excellent work!

It's the Recon's own stock, reinforced with some scrap wood and then plated with poster board. And yeah, my friend provided his own sling for it.

My reccommendation: find a place that sells custom signs for business and ask if you can buy some of their scrap sheet PVC. It should hold paint better than any paper or wood product.
