I'm considering using this as the cover for my self-published book: Fyrelocke (Book One of the Fyrestone Collection). The passage where the main character (Jack Boomershine) finds the Fyrelocke is:

"At the center of the cave was a small pool of water, clear and perfectly still. A constant drip echoed rhythmically in the stillness. In the middle was the source of the curious purple glow. He waded to it, spotting a rock, slightly larger than a golf ball – the source of the unnatural glow that filled the cavern. The driving, pulling sensation was even stronger now. Insistent.

He stooped to pick up the rock, his eyes growing wide as he brought it even with his nose. It began pulsing, a bright purple light. No sooner had he stood fully, than a strange sensation thundered through him. His legs turned to jelly. His mind reeled.

Everything went black."

Later in the novel he finds out that the Fyrelocke is a geode with an amethyst core...

I hope you like it.

This is awesome. I sincerely think you should use this in some way. Wish I was as good as you at drawing, especially digitally, haha. Wish you well one your book.

Thank you so much! Yes, I'm hoping to use it as the cover. Right now it is the inside I have been focusing on.

Thank you. I know, that's a *great* feature isn't it... this is GIMP's version of the same thing. I think there are less options, but it did a nice job.

Thank you! Not yet... I'd been sending to agents, and got really soured, was considering self-publishing, but then contacted a pro (a published author). He really liked it, but had some critiques. So, I might try the standard route one more time after making the adjustments he suggested. I just sent it to him for a final critique. Wish me luck!

When are you supposed to hear back?

rckobb In reply to Elphabla [2011-04-02 14:25:44 +0000 UTC]

It won't be till early May, and probably another month or two for me to edit based on his comments... I'm on 117 edits right now. Such a long process. So, hopefully by July or August, I'll be ready to submit to Agents.
