Ruby Rose-Rooster Teeth
Red Hood-DC Comics

A fully colored redesign of Ruby Rose as Red Hood. I wanted to do a redesign for this AU Ruby because I felt like the previous design didn’t have enough of Ruby’s design to feel like a merge of the two characters. The previous design is a mix of the Arkham Knight suit with everything expect the head from that suit while the head is the Arkham Red Hood design and I like how it still allows Jason to have his red helmet and a hood big enough to go over it. This redesign still has elements from those two costumes but now it’s mixed with some elements of Hunters from Destiny 2 and two of Ruby’s outfits.

The base of the suit is inspired by the Swordflight 4.1 armor set of Destiny 2, the helmet was helped by this since I tried to add elements of a Wolf into it to reference one of Ruby’s allusions and in this AU after she came back to life she gained some Wolf traits. The arms are still Arkham Knight influenced since I find the design cool. The Ruby influence, one of them is the metal things on the shoulders which are from her Slayer outfit in Volume 2, the battle skirt is the one from her Volume 7+ outfit, the cloak, her having Crescent Rose and her bat symbol is influenced by her own emblem of the show which means “Scatter” and why it’s a bat symbol made of various shapes.

So now the the in-universe explanation for Ruby’s change in costume in this AU. Ruby learns that her universe is a fusion of the earth of DC Comics and Remnant from RWBY and doing some research with Blake they realized that they’re superhero origins and a certain moments in their lives are similar to Red Hood and Batman but with an influence of themselves to change it a bit. The main thing that they are concerned about is the possibility of them doing certain things Red Hood and Batman have done throughout the years, most notably the very questionable things that writers and/or higher ups have done that they thought would be “cool” or “fit the character”. So that’s what makes Blake and Ruby go through somewhat of an identity crisis with them questioning the decisions they have made in the past and decisions that have to do later, it makes them wonder if it’s themselves or the DC half of them making the decision. They do question if they are Blake and Ruby filling in the roles of Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd but with their own personalities and style or a weir reverse of that given they are the only members of the Bat-Family to be a fusion of a characters. Basically it’s just Blake and Ruby with the rest of the Bat-Family being the same. They do get through it with them realizing that they are more closely similar to their counterparts of Remnant Prime than their DC halves. Which is why Ruby does a costume change that’s more in-tune with her RWBY counterpart. Although she did have to fight the physical forms of her previous Personas throughout her superhero career which were her Robin persona, Poison Ivy Knight, Arkham Knight persons and a Joker side created from her trauma before her death. The next illustration to post is going to be her Powered up form similar to her mom’s, Blake.
