going off that, why not adjust it to make a gaurdian,s spear (custodion weapon)

why do you need a ranged weapon, if your not charging at the front you leaveding form the back and this is the guy who would be running at the enemy

At least a range weapon would do some good.
Enemies charge; you charge.
A bolter in those free hands could easily knock or injure a space marine. But true; close range combatants don't usually require this.
Though when facing Tau, you need some range weapon or big armour. If not you'll get killed before coming close, space marine and guardsmen alike.

its always upto player how they arm them lords/captins. i tend to get them a optional weapon. IE power weapon and power fist or i love a storm shild and power sword give them a more knighty feel. and with the new relic blade well you get the idea.
all the paldin lord aren't going to be armed with a ranged weapon i may change this but it don't look like it, the chapter master will get a heavy flamer.
but i'm still working on the rules for them
