Right now I'm remaking exactly this painting as it is sold. Usually when I began to miss something of mine being sold, given as present etc. I sit down and make it again. Right now it is in a first wash stage, so good that you told me, will take some photos for a tutorial.

Do you finish your work with varnish? If you do, do you put it on before you take a picture of it?

Absolutely I use final varnish after complete drying (usually several days for acrylics, just for sure). However if possible I make the photo before to avoid unusual highlights from the varnish. If it is varnished, good approach is to wait the varnish to dry completely and then few months the painting to get some natural layer with fine dust etc.

Forgot to add - varnish only the dark areas and never the close to white lighter ones. I had a professor in the Academy who used to varnish his oil paintings (sure after complete drying about 2+ months) with thick layers of varnish all over. At the end the paintings looked like under several mm thick glass, however there were not single point of view from where the painting could be seen normally without huge areas of highlights. Avoid this, as well as varnishing a wet painting, this ruins it in relatively short period. There are some mid varnishes that are used in oil painting that are partially dry to bring the freshness of colors back, while you start a new session. One French brands they are marked with "Medium", but these work only with oil, no need of such for acrylic.

This is wonderful! You really capture a mood here and I just love the house, tree and steps. I find the sky just reflecting the angles of the roof and tree just a little too much for my eye. I think that the house and the tree would pop out even more if the brushstrokes in the sky had contrasting angles.
