I love the muted color you used for this photograph.
Did you use some kind of filter to achieve this effect? It feels B/W with the exception of subtle shades of gray. This is my fave of the series. Well done. And I love the gaze of her stare with the hair over one eye.
Cheers.

Thank you. No filters, just a custom white balance in the camera and then in lightroom, desaturated. I am always playing with white balances at the shoot. I shoot raw so obviously I can change that in software, but I have to feel the image when Im shooting so I have to get what I want in the camera for me to be happy with the results. Since I am new to using this much light I felt the colors were overwhelming and when I looked at the image in the viewfinder I liked the idea of her almost blending into the light. I thought too much color was taking away from the feel of the image.

There's a little insight into my weird mind.

Not at all. I'm still learning and trying to understand the tricks of Digital cameras and post-production of photography in the Digital Darkroom. I have to save up to get studio lighting gear. I know once I get a rig going that will open up so my possibilities for experimentation. (Sigh) so much to get, so little money to use.
Cheers.

I am not sure if you are familiar with the strobist movement, but there are a lot of cool tricks and gear that you can use to get great results with little money. For example,

that shot cost me a little more than 20 dollars to make. All it is is a shop light that I bought at home depot and put it above the models head. I have learned to do some really fun stuff with little money and walking down the lighting aisles of the home improvement stores Anyway if you have never heard of the strobists, do a google search for strobist. Amazing resource that I wish I had when I first started.

Most of my work has been done using 1 or 2 AlienBee 400 or 800 (great lights that are cheap) and a softbox...master 1 light and you can take over the world

my light meter thanks you for that Seems like a lot of people don't take the time to measure light. Most of my images use a lot of dark shadows and if they are lost, it is lost. Being able to do this with all this light was the same exercise and lucky for me, I got a friend who is willing to let me push myself. I don't feel like most people will let me play around and I feel pressured to create something. With Louisa, I don't get that pressure and we always get something out of it, but I don't feel the pressure to get something. I am glad I didn't get the shot in the first take though

someday maybe we can work together and do stuff...maybe
