Description a b o u t:

A huge thanks to all of you who have commented and ed this! I am honored by the response I've gotten on this!!

Thanks to =GibbyGibson , and her tutorial. [link]

This deviation is not meant to be offensive to anyone, and the fact that it says "straight artists" is explained below.

Where I live, people are narrow minded. If you support the fight for gay rights, that synonymous with being gay. That's just the way things work here, as I have noticed during the promotion of my neverending quest for total equality of all people. (...No matter skin-colour, sexual orientation, religion... I guess you've heard it all before. I guess I could call myself an idealist.) I think that conscious opinions and awareness is just like a cold; contagious.

Thing is; the people I've talked with that support the fight for gay rights have really thought it all through, can provide reasons for their opinions and... Well. I have yet to meet a person that supports gay rights "...Just 'cause." Even though it makes more sense (in my opinion) to support a group of people for no obvious reason than to be against them. That might just be my forced-positive-attitude talking, but think about it?

After spending two hours in a discussion-class where I was the only one supporting the rights of homosexuals, (One tiny-teenage girl against 26 raging, narrow minded monster-kids. Imagine.) almost laughing out loud when hearing their arguments, I think it's tragic that so many people dislike/hate/even-worse gay human beings without even being able to explain why.

The purpose of this stamp is simply to say that you don't have to be black to be against discrimination of the black people, you don't have to be Jewish to disapprove of Hitler, and you do certainly not have to be gay to support gay rights.

I know bringing Hitler up is a cheap trick, please excuse my desperation. I just really care for this matter.

this whole thing feels like a heterosexual circlejerk.

it's great that you support our rights but it seems to feel like you're more interested in telling the stories of how you came to support lgbta+ rights rather than actually helping to tell our stories. It feels like you're trying to make this about you, and how you're such a great person for showing basic human decency, rather than actually help us out.

it's pretty easy to say "I support gay rights!" but it's harder to actually show your support, and a stamp on your page reiterating you are straight before what you support, honestly sounds along the lines of "I'm straight, but I support gay rights! uwu but I'm definitely straight!" and while i don't care if you say you're straight, it is usually what gets assumed since it's very common. it doesn't really show much support, just a "feel good" thing to put on your page.

Didn't realize we had to paint our homrs in rainbow colors to be supporters. Smh we support you guys by not judging you guys and accepting you guys be happy that we dont treat you like freaks because you're different. This is the problem with the LGBTQ members when straight people start to accept you guys you make a fuss about not truly being treated equally. Just about done supporting you guys :/

This was so ridiculously homophobic and more passive-aggressive than a Tumblr user. I don't know where to start.Β

1. Never said you had to paint your homes in rainbow colours. I asked for cishet people to step the fuck out the way when we're supposed to be speaking on LGBTA+ issues and having us tell our stories.Β
2. "Be happy we don't treat you like freaks" You do still treat us like freaks. Things have improved in the last 20 years, but we still have a long way to go. We only just legalised gay marriage in my country this month, and it was at the end of a long, bullshit campaign that subjected many LGBTA+ Australians to homophobia.
3. ... Yes, we do make a fuss when we're not truly treated equally. It's surprising, people don't like being abused, neglected, subjected to corrective rape, fired from their jobs, evicted from their homes, denied their basic human rights, murdered, and massacred in their own spaces. We want to not be subjected to any of those things.Β

If "We want basic human rights and to share our stories without interruption from cishet people" is what makes you "just about done" with supporting us, you're a homophobic slug and I hope your financial life becomes a salt maze.

Cause what you explained up there was not what I was saying. I said that we accepted you and that we dont treat you like freaks lmao and that's homophobic..? Omfg get off of DA.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

axris In reply to Shrubz4Scrubz [2017-12-21 00:22:10 +0000 UTC]

You do still treat us like freaks, though.Β

25 countries have legalized gay marriage: out of 195. Most of these countries are first world countries with populations in the millions to hundred millions, with the United States having the largest population at 300 million approximately. Here's what it looks like on a world map: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wor…
that's a lot of countries where no LGBTA+ unions are recognised.Β

That is purely on the topic of marriage equality and doesn't address the rampant homophobia we face. If you don't treat us like freaks, then why is it still a huge risk for us to come out? Why are we still abused at your hands, neglected at your hands, fired, evicted from our homes, told to starve on the streets, murdered, and massacred in our own spaces?Β

So because I point out the oppression we face at the hands of you straight people and ask that we're not murdered and abused for being LGBTA+ and that you move the fuck aside when it's our turn to speak, I need to get off the website that I've been on longer than you anyway?

i said i thought this put emphasis on cishet support, rather than actually supporting the LGBTA+ community. it shouldn't be expected that straight people are homophobic.Β

axris In reply to Shrubz4Scrubz [2017-12-21 00:25:01 +0000 UTC]

A. You do. Maybe not you personally, but you're not a spokesperson for all straight people. And I have been called a freak for being LGBTA+.Β
B. That's like saying to the person with no house, no job, and barely enough food to feed himself that they're lucky they've still got all their limbs. It's cruel, heartless, unnecessary, and downplaying the troubles that they're going through because you personally don't want to deal with them.Β

You think I'm not smart because I'm saying something you desperately don't want to agree with, but you don't actually have an argument. It is homophobic to expect gratitude for the bare minimum, especially when you can't even meet that.

The things you said are important, but I hope this can change your mind about them, this kind of awareness and movement for gay rights and these things that trigger discussion among people are not 'nothing' and they do show support, I am not going to use this stamp, but I am looking for a good pro LGBT rights stamp to use, and it's not for anyone but for people of the LGBT community.
I want it so that if anyone that is either gay, trans, bi, asexual, anyone that has ever felt outcasted based on their sexual orientation or gender, I want them to look and know that I am not that way, I won't treat them that way, I will do my best to never behave disrespectfully or say something hurtful, that I don't think of them that way and they can speak to me openly, and confidently.Β  It's a safety flag, something I want to use to show that at least while there, and while speaking to me there is nothing to fear,
that's what 'showing support' does, and that's why it's good and helpful.

There is enough marketing against LGBT rights built into our everyday lives,
Β when ever someone reacts negatively to an LGBT experience like finding out their friend, or mother, is of a different sexual orientation, or seeing a non-straight couple on the street and they react negatively just because they've NEVER EXPERIENCED support and love in their community towards these things, or just acceptance or tolerance, this kind of ignorance based hate is the easiest kind to prevent, through these kinds of movements. Do you think a kid that grew up seeing pro-LGBT rights things around him will be just as intolerant as someone that hasn't? I mean, maybe, but it's less likely isn't it?
Either way,
sorry if this is too much,
or if I misunderstood you,
sorry if the particular way this stamp was made made/marketed can be offensive, I know am not the artist but I think he had good intentions, so I feel like I should apologize.
Happy new years and have a nice day
