I've seen a few Les Paul specials, but I've never tried one...
Good luck with the overdrive! =^^=
(the other part of that, you may need to put in "hotter" pickups...)
Modding the guitar can be half the fun!

Yeah, well, I'm still a noob learning how to restring a guitar. I bought some Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings and I'm still wondering whether I should try putting them on my own with the risk that they may break, or take the guitar to a store and give them money for a simple thing to do.
What guitar(s) do you own?

*Warning beware the Wall-O-Text!*
In short: Re-stringing a guitar like yours is fairly easy, just be careful, and do not over tighten the strings. When you start snugging them, you should bring your tuner into play, then you can tune them to the correct pitch, and have no risk of over- tightening them.
In long... =
Re- stringing an electric isn't that horrible... I learned from youtube... as a matter of fact... [link] There's a good link to show you the basic procedure! =^^=
Oh, another thing, I will cut the ends off my strings before removing them. First I unwind them, no point in snapping them! (Yes they have drawn blood! >O.O< ) then I cut them with a good pair of pliers. If you remove all the strings, now is a good time to give your guitar a good bath! The bridge and the tailpiece will come right off allowing you to clean under them! Pay attention to your bridge, though, It affects your guitars tuning! Make sure you put it on the same way it came off! (Usually, te screw heads will be facing the neck...
If you have some lemon oil, rub it into the fretboard with the strings off, you can clean it up a bit, which will make your guitar happy in general! It will keep the wood fresh, and darken it a bit...
Slack for the new strings: From watching my luthier, and how he restrings guitars, the amount of slack he leaves in the string before tightening it:
Pull the string through the tailpiece, and the tuning machine.
With your thumb, grab the loose string and tuck it into the pocket where your thumb meets your hand.
Extend your hand flat and touch your middle finger to the fretboard, with the string still tucked into your thumb.
Pull the string a little taut so that you can "kink" it next to the tuning machine.
Now you can start winding it! =^^=
Your lower strings only need one or two wraps. I like two, myself, and on the low "E" string, that is about all you will fit... The higher strings, being smaller should be wrapped a little more, so you can leave a little extra slack. The high "E" string can be a pain as it is very thin, a dirty trick is to actually loop the string through the tuning machine once to give it a little more bite. Having a string winder can help a lot!
If you are careful as you apply tension, you will not snap the string. Keep it low, then tune it up. Do not be over zealous when you tighten the string!
Finally, the critical thing to remember is that the windings always wrap down the post towards the headstock!
(Hmmm, This sounds like something I should have Tamar demonstrate! =^^= )
What guitars do I own?
Being obsessive-compulsive, I have played a few! = Here is the harem: [link] Althoug, as of this time I have sold nine of these off when I bought others! Hmmm, I have two new ones I should photo as well! =^^=
