This picture is incredible, showing the ways the got the things to unlock the keys, rainbow dash being the lead pony got hers, the rainbow thread got Rarity's, the blue flower from the breezies got Fluttershy's, Boneless from Cheese Sandwich got Pinkie Pie's, the one bit got Applejack's, with the exception of Twilight's reason. It shows the ponies' rare Rainbow Power forms, along with the keys that helped them achieve the rare forms. For each pony, except for Twilight, It shows the pony that gave them what turned into, the keys. Overall, this is a great piece. Nice job on it!

It looks good, but what ruins the picture is that you tried to incorporate your own ideas and visions too much.
You not only not added Twilight's key, only because you personally think it should be different, you also let Discord out, despite that he played a major role in the events and was one of the Guardians of the Keys, only because you think he hasn't become a true friend yet (and I smell much Discord aversion here, because the events truly show that he has changed after Tirek betrayed him, which makes it even worse that you ignored him).
And you also not included Silver Shill, despite that he was another Guardian of the Keys, but the Flim Flam brothers instead, that haven't anything to do with the key, and here you didn't even named a reason for that.
It's of course your piece of art, but when you make art that is meant to directly represent episodes or a whole season, you should push your own wishes and opinions back and simply portray what happened.
For incorporating your wishes and opinions, you can make an original piece of art with the characters engaging in new events you thought out, but this shouldn't happen in a picture that is meant to represent episodes or a season.
That's just not right.
I won't favourite nor download this picture. For an overarching post Season 4 fanart, it has just too many mistakes and it just screams "Bah, I didn't like that, I CAN'T draw this!".

TBH it's good to have a little originality sometimes, right? It doesn't hurt anything if it is a little different from the show.

That's totally fine. A lof of fanart derives, depicts own interpretations or explores alternate possibilities.
My critique was aimed at the intention behind it, he thought that some aspects of the episode sucked, so he decided to "fix it" and pretended he is better than DHX, just based on the fact he would have chosen a different way to write the episode if he would have been the writer.
It is okay to make different interpretations of something for creativity's sake, it is not okay to alter something for the purpose of elevating yourself over another artist, for trying to make yourself look good at the expense of someone else or for criticizing another artist's vision.
That should be common courtesy among all artists, really.

Oh, and one more thing. The way you said "you should push your own wishes and opinions back and simply portray what happened." You pretty much told that artist to limit their creativity and keep their originality and their dreams to a minimum, and that is something an artist NEVER does. A common artist always express their originality, wishes and dreams for their entire life unless they want to give up on being an artist; for their creativity is limitless. I know he's stating that this is better than the official content that was there, but really, you should appreciate the work and thought that man had put up with to create this piece.

Well then I can see the problem with this critique then. It's not respecting one's opinion about the show. You can't really critize someone over thier intentions of the art. That's actually not much of criticism as it is ranting about someone's opinion.
So he made a "better" alternative version about the show, so what? Is it really insulting towards DHX or Meghan McCarthy in any type of way?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CMC--Scootaloo In reply to DreamerDanielsun [2017-01-09 04:27:18 +0000 UTC]
Most definitely. As I said, if he wants to make an alternate version, to explore creative possibilities (which he didn't, he wanted to defame Meghan McCarthy's work that way, basically saying "What she did is shit, so I make it better!"), then this would have been okay, but he explicitly created this picture to make a negative statement about the episode's writing and that's just despicable, because he bashed Meghan McCarthy's writing that way, just because it wasn't to his taste.
If you create an art piece like this to spite another artist, then you're just abusing art and your artistic expression.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DreamerDanielsun In reply to CMC--Scootaloo [2017-01-09 13:30:22 +0000 UTC]
Well still, you are not respecting the man's opinion about the show. If he doesn't like the episode then that's his problem, not yours.
Again, this is not a critique, this is a rant about one's opinion. You should've respected that opinion and left it alone but no, instead you're all like "Oh! How dare you dislike the 4th season finale of one of my favorite show about ponies! Here, let me make a rant..er..I mean critique about how you should keep your opinions about the show to yourself along with your originality and ideas of the show!" Doesn't that sound a bit ridiculous? Well, sadly that's what your "critique" screams.
And let's get real here. Would McCarthy even care? Would McCarthy give a single care that someone made a "better" version than the official moneymaking content that is there? No he wouldn't. Wanna know why? Two terms I just used: "official" and "moneymaking". Know that people are gonna be drawn towards the official content more than just a simple fanart, and know that McCarthy is making money out of his content and Rariedash is not.
So really you are looking more of the bad guy for not leaving one's opinion alone, and telling him to limit his opinions and ideas in which an artist always express those things.

You continue to miss the point. Either way, if you choose to understand my words or not, creating an art piece to make another artist look bad, because the art piece of that artist is not to your personal taste, then pretend you're better than that artist, is art done out of the wrong motivations.
Art should come from honest inspiration and the desire to try new things to explore their artistic value and potential, not from malicious intent and arrogance like it's the case here.

Buddy, I've read the description and call me blind if you want, but I see no malicious intention at all. All I saw was her saying that McCarthy made a mistake on letting Discord be a part about the key and the picture, and I think RarieDash has a pretty good reason as to why. I'm starting to think you are overreacting.
I understand your words. I understand exactly what you are accusing RarieDash of what he's doing. You're telling me that this man is saying that he can do better than the original content that is already there, and that is not the truth. In a way, RarieDash humbly said that this is his version of the story. Not yours, not McCarthy's, not DHX's, not mine, but HIS VERSION. He never even said his version is better. All he said that this is the season just for him, meaning that this is his version of the season.
And I think you've missed a detail. He did not firmly say that McCarthy made a mistake. He humbly said that he THINKS McCarthy made a mistake. Overall though, just be a little less stubborn and leave the man's opinions alone.

"Your picture season arc sucks!"
And because it sucks, let me do it better. Papa Rariedash will show you how it's done and how you would have made a good season arc.
Slightly modified your quote. What you said is exactly what I called Rariedash out for. He was not going for drawing an alternate version of the events for creativity's sake, he was drawing an alternate version, then going on with rants in the description about how DHX did it all wrong and how its decisions for the key givers didn't make any sense, how Meghan McCarthy was making a big mistake, and was claiming that it needs fixing and that he's the one fixing it, the work of other artists he doesn't agree with. That picture up there is the equivalent of an accusation fic or fix fic on FIMFiction.net. It's an insult to Meghan McCarthy and DHX in general and all of their hard work.
And you just defended him, showing that you agree with his stance.
You're projecting with this quote.

Guilt-tripping me because you don't agree with stuff I'm thinking and because I criticize your hateful, clouded and hopelessly biased stance on the official comics..... Have fun with that, that doesn't work.
Stuff like that just makes me more convinced that I'm right with a lot of things I'm saying.
Thank you, you just added +20 to my resolve.
Also, first randomly calling me out for calling out a jerk artist, then writing a comment only consisting of an insult as answer to my reply and now there's suddenly a link to the Tumblr blog that repeatedly tries to make me famous, posted by you.
Well, that isn't ominous at all.....
Guess I know now who is re-opening that blog that spreads lies and slander about me all the time.
I hope you enjoy your double standard as much as I will enjoy it to copy/paste the same text like last time when I inform the Tumblr support again. :3
Although, I know something that you won't enjoy:
Since you outed yourself very successfully as the creator of this blog, I will do my best to spread word about what you do with it.
Comment here is screenshotted, if I see the blog returning after the Tumblr support deleted it again, I will take action against you.
I can see that you think of me as a ruthless asshole and I can guarantee you that I can be one if I need to.
Don't tempt me and don't strain my patience, Seiya-Meteorite. You would not be the first one who regrets it.

And you really are a jerk, a lot of people I've seen on the Internet hate you.
This is what comments actually said about you on Horse News:
"You mean like how CMC_Scootaloo does his annual angry fits and rages over Equestria Girls and anyone who dares to even remotely like it.
Hypocritical asshole."
"I wish CMC_Scootaloo would get banned. He constantly violates EQD's commenting rules, yet he somehow posts in nearly every single article on EQD, presumable since he has litearlly nothing else to do in life."
"That is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to CMC_Scootaloo. He even accused CinemaQuestria of trying to profit from their streams and that was why they got a C&D. Complete horseshit as their stream suggested using an adblocker, used Ustream like most pony streams and never had any kind of Patreon it similar (unlike say, Brony Network) and the slander and lies he only perpetuated because CQ most likely sacked BolttheSuperPony for spreading the lies in the first place, and it appears the 2 were chums.
Nasty people, the pair of them."

It is an expression of yourself, however, we're speaking about fanart and there things run a bit differently.
I'm fine with it if someone wants to make an alternate universe drawing to transform some things he/she has seen in the show, but if so, it should be described as such.
In this case, Rariedash was not going to create his own "What if" scenario, he wanted to create a picture that's directly representing the events of the Season 4 Finale that we have seen happen on-screen and yet he changed them anyway.
This picture screams "Bah, some things in this episode were done so terribly, lemme show how it's done RIGHT!" all over the place.
What he did with this picture was the same as if I would draw a picture for "Amending Fences" and swap out Moon Dancer with Twinkleshine without tagging it as "Alternate Universe" and then write in the description:
"Drew something for 'Amending Fences', but replaced Moon Dancer with Twinkleshine, because seriously, having her in this position was just so unfitting it hurt, cause [Insert random reason here] and now I fixed this to show how it SHOULD have been done!"
This is not a piece of art what he did, it's an expression of entitlement.
Which makes it ironically funny at this point that you just told me that art is an expression of the artist, because with how he did draw this picture, he perfectly expressed what an entitled jerk he is.
All he wanted to say with this picture is "Let me show you how terrible this and that in the episode is!".
So, if he wanted to express that he thinks he's better than the writer of the episode, congratulations, he succeeded tremendously with that.
This picture is him putting himself over the one who wrote the episode, putting himself over another artist and claiming to be better than she.
Discrediting another artist's art piece and calling it bad is not what art is there for and not a message art should convey and therefore my criticism stands.

Absolutely amazing as usual!
Vision: I found this wonderful, and, as you mentioned in the description, Twilight's friends are her key. They are the source of the element of Magic and, generally, Twilight herself.
Originality: 4.5 stars, I know. But, I've seen other art that uses this technique of having simple forms of the ponies and the way of the different ponies spiraling out of the center.
Technique: I found it very effective in how you showed each of the Rainbow Forms, the items, the keys, and some of the characters that helped to find the key/item.
Impact: It's nice on how you show the process on how each of the Mane 6 got their keys and the challenges they had to endure to realize and embrace their element. It's pretty much the ultimate test for them.

A wonderful piece, especially as it is done in the same style as that of the stain-glass windows in Canterlot. It really looks like it could belong in the palace, as it incorporates the episodes in which each of the ReMane 5 earn the objects that later become their keys, you've also shown each of the Mane 6 in their Rainbow Power (for lack of a better term) "forms", which only emphasises the theme of their Elements. I also love how you have placed Celestia, Luna and Cadence around Twilight, similar to the way in which they surrounded her before giving her their magic. The colours are bright and merry and quite simply vibrant, and the lines clearly show what they are meant to, but they do not dominate the picture and make it look overly complex, with the possible exception of the baggage in Rarity's sector. Overall, certainly an amazing picture, and it looks like it would make a great wallpaper too! *Hint hint*

Fair enough, I have it as my desktop background, and the jpg artifacts are just enough to be noticed.
As some (hopefully positive) criticism:
The art is excellent and inspired. All the parts work together seamlessly to give a wonderful design.
However, the format chosen does detract slightly. The show is based on having relatively large swatches of a single color broken up by thin lines (as is reflected here). This is great when using a loss-less file-type such as .png or .bmp. On the other hand, the algorithms used when saving a .jpg, even at "100% quality," introduce artifacts near the edges, that will then expand and multiply with each subsequent save. the JPEG Standard is great for photographs because of how it saves and compresses the data, but honestly horrible for something like this.
I just graduated with my BS in Computer Science, and the JPEG Standard was one of my favorite topics to look at because of the amount of math it involved.
Again, the work is most excellent, I just feel that th .jpg is detracting from it. 4.5/5
