Description
I was pretty bored today, and so decided to put together a small reference sheet for my favourite of the Wildling Clans, the 'Reindeer/Winter' Tarandus!
They're a shaggy bunch, and there's still plenty I missed off here, though hopefully it gives people a better idea of colours and patterns you can actively use. They're a light haired race, so anything darker than the colour-types pictured tend to have to include another clan somewhere in a Wildling's bloodline. I also missed off that their hooves have to be dark, but they're also the only clan that can have marbled hooves, which is exactly how it sounds.
A folder with each Tarandus/Partial-Tarandus clan member can be found HERE
Their overview has been copy/pasted from the now extended description :
Tarandus - Reindeer - Winter
Homeland: Tverra Mountains (Located North of the Crystal Empire)
Tarandus is considered the oldest of the Wildling clans, and are often regarded as being more deer than horse. Their common features include shaggy fur - often worn in long strands or plaited with beads on males, especially along the throat and neck area. Often they host deer like patterns on their coats. Whilst many Wildlings hold spotted or dappled like patterns upon their hides, it's usually a combination of natural colours (whites, grey, brown, snow white/blues and blacks etc), as well as their characteristically longer fur and lighter hair that defines a pure blooded member of the Tarandus clan.
They are very family orientated, siblings helping to raise their younger brothers or sisters, or wholly raising them within bisier, more influential families. If in the event there is an orphaned foal, either older siblings take over, or a suitable family takes them in.
The Tarandus clan lead a campaign against the wolves that they share their home with, using protection spells in order to keep them at bay. They also train 'warriors' to fend canine attacks off - guards that often paint skeleton like patterns on themselves to show their ranking. Their hooves are usually dark in colour, but can be split, or marbled, in colour.
Said feud with the wolves of Tverra Mountains prohibits interaction of any kind between the two races. Only those who can break the protective spells, or knows the blind spots, can trespass onto wolf territory. Conflict and attacks occur from both sides, many warrior Tarandus hosting scars from their endeavours.
Close to the Melursus clan, due to their similar traits and habitats.
They have close ties to the Nerensis clan, and vice versa, due to their noble natures.
They don't interact with the Philoden tribe much at all, due to distance between them.
Their names are usually shorter than most, not following 'pony' naming logic. Names are usually Nordic in nature.

The rotation system is mainly driven by clan numbers, so as Philoden and Nerensis have high numbers they're less likely to rotate in. Melursus is in now, and Tarandus was open last month, so they will probably be back by August or September at the latest! I tend to open up the original four clans for September anyway, as that is my birthday month c:
The clan open for the month normally is on the front page of Wildling-Unicorns , but our super group status ran out recently, but it will be back again on Thursday c:

Nope, everyone gets two free MYOs to use up on whatever clans they would like - as long as they are open at the time of approval!
More can be earned too, by participating with the group, and drawing your (and others) Wildlings!

When Tarandus are open for approvals, most certainly! They open in November so always good to start early so you are ready when they open!

Would the name Gunhild be fine it means "fight fight"in nortic?
is it ok if I add the bony details or it that for males only?
and. Is a light pastel purple mane with green icy blue (like green mixed with periwinkl) fine ?
(sorry if this is long I just don't wanna do anything wrong)

Any nordic name is fine, as long as there isn't a Wildling currently registered with that name! Checking the masterlist is the best way to double check- this can be found on the group page! (Wildling-Unicorns )
The colours featured her are pretty much the limit for Tarandus - light blue hair is fine but purple isn't. They tend to be more naturally coloured, so two bright colours don't suit the clan. Philoden would be a better clan for a Periwinkle Wildling!

You can make one, yes. But please read all there is, to be sure you're following the species guide! They also need to be approved before being uploaded!

All Wildlings need to be approved by myself before use. They can be submitted here:
Approval Journal: Post new OCs here! Here is where you can post your newly designed Wildling, or a potential redesign if it is drastic.
Below you can find all the relevant bits of information we need to know before approving your Wildling:
• Always include a full bodied reference - head shots will not suffice!
If you're confident in the design, but it's unpolished and/or on stash, then you can still put your Wildling up for approval, but it will not be put onto the master list until the image is officially uploaded to DA.
• The chosen name of your Wildling - if possible/applicable, how does it fit in with the chosen clan's culture?
If you would like name suggestions, please leave the name blank, and just let us know.
• Clan traits used - what are the defining points used that makes your Wildling fit into the clan it comes from?
i.e lighter hair

What are the different features between male and female?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rannarbananar In reply to HorseyContent [2016-10-30 23:15:14 +0000 UTC]
Males usually are overly shaggy with braids in their manes and the overgrown fur on their necks. Females are usually slimmer, with grown out fetlocks instead. They're pretty long coated all round though.

I just checked, and Kaira is just fine!
If you mean accessories in her mane yes. They don't use dyes in their hair though.

Hey there, I was just wondering two things
Are dark muted reds alright?
Also,
would the name Akeldama be alright?
I can change all of that if it isn't coolio with you~
those were just my first basic iders~

Rannarbananar In reply to HeterocromaticQueen2 [2016-07-04 00:08:34 +0000 UTC]
Dark muted red would be fine for the main coat, but not for their hair as Tarandus have very light coloured hair, so whites, greys, creams and blondes.
They used Nordic names, so unless it's some name under that description I prefer people look up something more suitable.
Hope that helps!

Rei-gaia [2016-04-03 12:53:09 +0000 UTC]
So it's ok to make a darker coated tarandus (like blackish) as long as he's a mix breed has and deer patterns on his coat?
Also how big are they compared to normal ponies/or the princesses?I'd like to make one that is a bit bigger (height wise)than others, though not unreasonably big.
Sorry for so many questions, I just really like this breed ^^"
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rannarbananar In reply to Rei-gaia [2016-04-03 13:06:57 +0000 UTC]
The lighter colour more refers to their manes, you can have a darker pelted one (body colour) though no Wildling would be jet black - more a dark coal colour. For an idea on this, look up Black Swan and Cissa on the Nerensis clan list (found in main species info)
Most adult Wildlings are easily as tall as Season 1 Luna and others of her body type. Males are quite a bit taller than females. It's not unheard of Tarandus clan members to be larger/taller than even Celestia though.
Hope that helps! C:

Rannarbananar In reply to EppyMinecart [2016-03-02 07:57:40 +0000 UTC]
They live upon the mountain side, and their homes are usually cave systems inside it. They patrol the forests that cover most of the mountain.
