RULES OF MINECRAFT:

Don't dig straight down.
A stable source of food is more important than anything else.
Don't waste things that aren't renewable.

Those are the most important ones.

Nooo, rule 2 is don't dig stright up.
3 is holding shift at high altitudes. 4 is sprinting the flip away when you hear a "HissssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"

Straight up? Why would you ever want to do that? And sprinting decreases your chance of survival as it takes two taps of W, which results in a split second of non-movement.
My rule #4 would be ESC, then peaceful.

Depends on your reflexes. If you're quick enough to hit the ESC key, then go for it. I'd probably be better off just sprinting away.

What about when 1.3 comes out? With the new local servers thing (which is complete crap, by the way), the game keeps running when you pause it. And you wouldn't have time to click in and switch to peaceful - the creeper doesn't give you enough time.

You could sprint away, then click to peaceful?
