Description What is Rage? How do we experience it ? Is there any form of energy transfer between the subject and the surroundings and how is the emotional equillibrium attained ? This is the premise of my new conceptual workβ€”Rage.

About the original idea, I wanted to make a series of artworks which attempted to derive a visual expression for various emotions and feelings; but not something too graphic nor photographic. Well soon enough I realised that this was the 'tragic flaw' in my decision and that things are not going to happen the way I reckoned. It was like, some people saw the work and though it was too artsy for a photograph and others thought it was too photographic for an artwork! So, I had to redo the whole thing and tried a different approach. I tried to make a purest expression of the tertiary emotion Rage in a manner that was open and free for exploration; something that could be experienced differently by different people. I am yet to be sure of the end product in this aspect, but surely, I have given my whole to it.

A special thanks to Ahrum for his suggestions and the unparalleled stock. Also to Eebvoom for the brushes .

I agree with the comments its good artwork ,but it looks closer to pain than rage, As i see it anger has 3 stages AnnoyanceΒ  Anger and then RAGE! when i have seen people pissed during my security work they don't close their eyes they want to stare down the thing making them angry and scream at it kick it punch it destroy it.

Great pic. I get a sense of great loss. Like the most meaningful part of his life was just ripped away. Not anger, but immense pain. A raging torrent of pain. Thanks for stirring that in me.

Ok. Publicly - I am a slacker. I told ~ramsankar I'd post this weeks...by that I mean months....ago.

Critique:
In looking at this image I first thought it was a digital painting - and then realized it was a manipulation. It automatically gets a just for that - if it's a manip and I can't immediately tell, you're doing something right!

Since then, ~ramsankar has reposted this image. Of the new image:

Design & Execution:
Good choice of images, and good detail - the cracks behind his head radiate in a believable way, and the colors are dark but not morbid.

I believe it has more clarity (both of image and of concept) than the first posting.

The lighting from above helps to blend and provide a focus in the shot.

Concept: I do see RAGE here - and maybe pain, and maybe anguish and maybe frustration. It depends on how you see rage, what you can see here. The rock and the facial expression and the radiating cracks behind the model's head all contribute to a general feeling of heavy explosive emotion.

Other:
The model's expression is what makes this work - the concept is well illustrated, well lit and well manipulated. I salute *Ahrum-Stock most highly for his expressive images as well as ~ramsankar for blending the images together well.

Could work on:
I do feel this image is very dark, even for a 'dark' emotion - rage can be very hot and bright as well. The deep shadows bring a feeling of darkness which can be mistaken for evil or pain. Also, while shadows can help to blend images it can make a finished image feel flat.

Hey, that was a great critique. One of the most comprehensive I ever received. Again, I'm a slacker too. Had been out of deviantArt for a long time. Had been preparing some university applications and working on my portfolio blog. [link] . I spend more than a month on it and as the previous host was kind of slow had to even shift everything including database and so. Finally it's all over.

Thank you again for the wonderful critique

I love this very much.

It expresses the rage successfully.

Colors are perfectly fitting into my taste.

Broken glass at the back, very nice touch and puts more meaning into work.

Currently I'm on a Mac and the work looks beautiful.

Rage is some kind of a state of sleeping for me.
