Well, please don't take offense, but I personally don't see what talent it takes a person to just trace over a screenshot in Illustrator. Skill and patience, of course, but talent? I really don't know.
I can totally see the use in open-source vectors for varying projects throughout the community, and not everyone directly traces the show, but I prefer seeing people find their own styles to capture the characters.
Again, I have nothing against vector artists or their work; it's just not really my speed.

I see your point. I guess since I don't access (or time) to do such tracings of my own, I appreciate others doing so so that I can use them in some fashion. But, like you said, to each their own.
