Shoegaze is a music genre heavy in sound distortion. You can tell it's shoegaze if the guitar is really distorted and you can barely hear the singing. Shoegaze bands include My Bloody Valentine and Coaltar of the Deepers. There is also a Vocaloid sub-genre called "Mikugazer" which is basically shoegaze with Vocaloid. To me, it sounds very dreamy, like on the threshold between sleep and non-existence. I've been listening to Mikugazer so much lately that my senses have turn into mush.
