Description
I met Krystal a couple months ago, during prep for a joint operation with Star Fox. We had been stationed at Crawford Base in Katina for about a week, and the whole unit was excited to get to work alongside this legendary team of mercenaries. They landed early that day, and we got to hang out with them in the lounge for a bit before briefing.
They were all an interesting bunch but I was especially interested in Krystal, the Cerinian Warrior, because I knew a bit of her story. I knew she had become the leader of Star Fox, not long ago, after the incident regarding Captain McCloud. To be honest, I was a little surprised to find out how nice and kind she actually is, despite her apparently stern demeanor. We didn't get to talk all that much, but I think I earned at least a bit of her trust because she told me about what she knew I kept wondering but was too afraid to ask her: Fox McCloud's disappearance.
That day, she told me, was supposed to be just another successful mission, the kind that an elite squadron such as Star Fox are used to. And it would have been, until they noticed the captain was gone. He was nowhere to be found – he'd simply vanished. He left no traces behind, save for one thing: his scarf. That bright red, instantly recognizable scarf that now adorned her neck.
That part made sense to me. I know Captain McCloud and her are close. It's no secret to anyone, really. And I know his disappearance must've caused her a lot of grief. Maybe I’m not the smartest, but I can clearly see the pain in her eyes, the despair. And while I don't know her all that well, it's very difficult to see her try so hard to hide it.
After the incident, she sort of became the de facto leader of the squadron. Sneering, she told me it wasn't even put up for debate – she simply began calling the shots and the rest of the team complied. Not even ace pilot Falco Lombardi put up any resistance. I think that speaks volumes of the respect the team has for her. And she did prove herself to be a more than capable leader. Star Fox remained a cohesive team under her command, and they’re as scary today as they were before their leader’s disappearance. I didn't say anything because it's not my place, but I think Captain McCloud would be very proud of her.
Asking her about her decision to wear his scarf, she confessed to me that she does it out out of more than just reverence for him. She told me that, while she doesn't believe in luck, having that scarf around her neck actually makes her feel safer, as if he was still there, watching out for her. In the end, she made it clear that her main driving force is her hope that he is still alive, and that she will one day find him. She swore to me that she won't stop at nothing until she does. "I will either give him back this scarf myself," she said while pointing at her neck, "or I will die wearing it."
While I feel bad about the whole situation, I was very glad to see at least a spark of hope in her eyes. No one knows where Captain McCloud is, or if he's alive. But I damn sure hope she finds him.

What's all this? Just a small Krystal concept design. My own vision of badass Krystal ^_^ with a bit of narrative to go along! I'm not good at drawing outfits in general (you know I seldom draw clothes), but I think this turned out nicely for a first try. I'm definitely doing more of this in the future :3
