Description I've always wanted to do a vampire. With Halloween around the corner (and me doing a 2-day horror festival this month), it's a perfect excuse to paint one.  Listened to some Gravity Falls and Powerman 5000 beats while painting this.

I dedicate this to author, Jemiah Jefferson . She writes the most jaw-dropping, erotic, very bold horror stuff around (seriously, there are plenty of 'WTF' moments in her books - she doesn't hold back  ). I discovered her from 'Fangoria'. Of Jemiah's quartet set of vampire books, 'Fiend' remains my favorite. This artwork is my interpretation of her devout, moody Catholic vampire character, Orfeo Ricario.

Please visit Jemiah's website and her  facebook and give her some love. She's definitely one of the most talented, yet underrated writers out there. If you're into vampires and like a good challenge, you'll enjoy her work.

Ah, it's so beautiful I love the imagery, and I feel like flowers are a reoccurring motif in your work as of late I'm eager to start reading those books too, they sound fascinating.

The drawing itself is really well done, I especially adore the color palette and the shading on roses.

It's a fun, ironic detail from Jemiah's vampire universe. XD In her universe, there is no 'burning from the cross' thing. Orfeo, himself, is a devout Catholic; a bit of a hypocrite at times, LOL. Her vampires are only weak to direct sunlight. They also only feast on blood because that's the only substance their bodies can digest (and yes, in Jemiah's universe this includes menstrual blood... ). Because their bodies no longer 'function', whatever they eat quickly comes out the way it initially entered. e_o So it's more out of disgust and lack of substance that her vampires suck on blood. There's one vampire (Daniel) who doesn't give a fuck, lol and enjoys eating food solely for false pretenses and to disgust Orfeo.
