Yeah, humidity is important for them. I keep mine on an external hard drive because it's sufficiently warm to fog her container up when I water her. Avics are pretty touchy and sometimes they'll just die for seemingly no reason as well :/

well that's disappointing. I'm thinking about putting one in a 10 gallon aquarium, should that be enough room?

It depends on the size of the spider, you don't want the enclosure to be too big or it can have trouble finding its food. 2.5 or 5.5 gallon would probably be better for something Avic-sized, though it's also important to note that since they're arboreal they prefer height to width. I've got mine in sort of a tall plastic "cup" with a snap lid.

1 quick question: what could I put in a 10 gal. appropriately?

An older Grammostola aureostriata maybe? They get pretty big but they grow slowly. Or Theraphosa blondi but those are supposed to be rather touchy (never had one myself.)
You could still keep Avic avic in a 10 gallon, just so long as it has plenty of stuff to climb up and you keep an eye on its eating habits. Another thought would be doing something like this with it? [link]

I would never put a blondi in there. I would get at least a 20 gal., a 10 would be cruel. Maybe a smaller theraphosa, but not a blondi. The aureostriata sounds good.

This makes me miss the time when my tarantulas were just little spiderlings. He's adorable. My G. aureostriata is almost all grown up now.

What a cutie! My little grammostola aureostriata is just this size right now. I've only had him/her for about a week and a half now... hasn't eaten yet though. Did you have trouble feeding yours this small? They're so precious :3

They always ate pretty well when they were little, the only times I can recall them not being interested was before molts. Now I'm missing all my fuzzballs, I'm out of the country and my mom is taking care of them until I get back =<

The weird thing is, I love so much looking at spiders in pictures and from a distance, but when they are really near me I get all squirmy and remember that they are bugs.. @n@

Old comment is old. Anyway, aren't they like crustaceans or something? I know that now xD

arachnids. not even remotely close to crustacean.

Or maybe it was crabs that were arachnids... I'm so confused.

Don't they take like seven years to mature? They're so gorgeous too O__O
I think this guy was one, I forget though.. (he belonged to the lady who I got Dogar from, I photographed some of her spiders while I was getting mine) [link]

Oh yes! Beautiful when they are adults. So rich, glossy black. I know someone with an adult female, she is so pretty. I think he wants to try and breed her. I would love to have at least a juvenile so I won't have to wait.

i can understand being afraid of getting bitten but "eeew" doesn't make sense to me T_T; Tarantulas are fluffy, even! Also that is a HUGE caterpillar, I've never seen one that big o__o

How cute! He's so tiny. My tarantula is pretty big. I have had him for over 3 years, and he has only molted once. Just his body is bigger than this little guy XD

He does have eight eyes, but they're so tiny it's pretty much impossible to make them all out XD Here's how a tarantula's eyes are arranged though- [link]
