Description Finally, my project about Fairy Tales. In this series I explore the passively perfectly thin fairy tale heroines of my youth, giving them a rebirth as strong, self-confident agents of their own destinies who have some weight on them and are unconventional, but beautiful. All the paintings were done in watercolor with some colored pencil for touch-ups, and black ink linework.

This is Red Riding Hood. I made her older, since I don't want to advocate child violence Instead of being a young girl who is attacked and outwitted by a wolf, she is an older, wiser person who carries the means to protect herself, and indeed does so. I gave her a falcata again, as I'm currently obsessed with those swords. And there are two wolves instead of one because in the version of the story that was originally recorded by the Brothers Grimm, some time after the Hunter rescues her and her Grandmother, she encounters another wolf that she and her Grandmother defeat together. I think that's awesome, and wanted to pay homage to that, even though I didn't get to use that often-omitted ending in the design of this piece.

I had the idea of a version of Red Riding Hood where the titular character eats the wolf.

first of all,i lloovvee this serie and your brilliant ideas.but in this one, seeing bloody dead animals stopped me from smiling at first.and i wanted to think that those animals symbolize the men violence in a woman's life.i think about violence against woman and strong women who can defend themselves.

Wow, thanks! I didn't mean that when I painted them, but it is a very cool and interesting interperetation. Thank you for coming up with it, it adds even more to the piece

Wow, that nose is my trademark and theres a wolf in me that I often dream about slaughtering. While I do love chivalry very much, there are some things from which only I can save myself. This piece is beautiful and I am personally very touched by it.
Also, your line work is gorgeous.

I didn't know that the Grimm Brothers had a second wolf! I think that's a much better ending.

Yeah, it is. Kinda morbid because that brings death right into a child's hands, but at least its the women themselves doing the defending, not being defended by some random strange man who happens by.

Wow, really? Nice to know! (the second wolf ending)
Hahaha, she's pissed off.

Yeah, that ending is just lost to mainstream fiary tale recreations, which is quite sad.

And yup. Wouldn't you be pissed if you were calmly walking through the woods, on a path to visit a beloved family member, and all of a sudden you were attacked not one, but twice? Even if you were victorious, I imagine it would still be annoying.

Take THAT wolves!

Do people honestly think that a girl would go into the woods without protection? I love this series.

It's quite nice. To quote Pratchett's "Wee Free Men",

"Any girl who can't tell the difference between a wolf and her grandmother must either be dumb as a post or come from an extremely ugly family."

Only probably is, now Romulus and Remus are orphans. ;-;

Kick ass.

Interesting that the original ending had Little Red and her grandma taking charge and showing self reliance. It seems that rather than changing the story in this case, it's more like you're restoring it.

Aww, thanks It means a lot to me that you think I'm restoring it. That would be a great honor.

I like how even though the woman is older, her hood is still little. It's a bit like Red Riding Hood grown up but still wearing that same hood she liked so much. And the dead wolves look really cool in your style.

Hehehe, thanks! I'm glad you like the hood. For some reasons shorter hooded cloaks appeal to me.
