Description I just couldn't bring myself to put "Uranus" in the title. I am such a dork. Do not read into the previous two statements....

Sooo... This is another of my favorite dragons that I've done. I was indeed thinking of Portuguese Man o' Wars, those funky jellyfish cousins who float across the surface of the ocean with the help of an inflated air bladder. I again went for a very alien-looking dragon, giving him lots of fins and frills and teeth and eyes and teeth and spots and teeth. Yes. I like sharp teeth.

I drew the dragon first with pencil. Then I went in with watercolor, hitting the dragon, background and moons with a blue-gray and violet wash. When that was dry, I placed the black bars on top and bottom. Then I did about 20 hours of colored penciling on the dragon itself - but not all at once. Never all at once. I'd go crazy.

I showed the original Uranean Man o' War for the first time at the Archon convention in 2003. It sold immediately. Wow. I honestly didn't see that one coming. It's so rare to get to sell an original.

holy crap, fricken awsome. the crazy "not there" neck part adds subtle intelligence to the whole piece.
