Description Stumbled across this tonight while looking for something else, thought I'd share.

Back in 1999, Star Wars 1 , the Phantom Menace was coming out and the whole country was going utterly batshit insane cause of the of the 16 year drought since the previous Star Wars film.

And yes, I actually did both in this story, unlike 1977, the theater was running Phantom Menace on 5 screens.

Back in '77 I was in Lubbock (Reese AFB) and went to see this new Sci-Fi movie barely advertised in that one horse town.  I counted seven people, myself included, in the theater at the first showing.  When that star destroyer came across the screen I softly said "How big is that thing?"  Two rows behind me a woman replied "I don't know, but I want one."  We came out to find a line wrapping around the building.  There is nothing like watching an epic Space opera in a theater with only six other people.

Unless you count years later when I was assistant manager of Backstage Theater and played it for myself, at Zero-Dark-Thirty.

The first Star Wars I saw in theaters was TFA, though I’ve watched every other(I was too young to see any of the prequels in theaters!)

I remember that as my family was coming out of the theater (only two screens and it was the only theater in the county), my then three year old sister said "Some of those Storm Troopers were nice."  She was thinking about the scenes with Han and Luke in disguise

It was the Star Destroyer that got me.  I loved the epic scale of things Star Warsian, they never do anything small, no-no-no.

Thanks for showing this one, Thomas!

Tell us again, Gramps!

I first saw it with a bunch of my geek buddies. Awesome. A year and a half later, I saw it with a girlfriend. She hated it. We never went out again. Six months after that, I saw it with a new girlfriend, who had already seen it twice and loved it. We went out for eight years.
