Love the overall composition. The drooping flower adds quite a bit of life. Great work on the wood. Did you build up the color in layers?

Hallo Reinhold. I have only tried to paint woodgrain once out of all my paintings (the wood of the cross in the "Crucifixion" painting). This was some 20 years ago. I didn't know what I was doing at the time, and I just used very thin washes of sienna's and umbers and built them up one on top of the other. It actually worked in the end, but I have no idea if I could do it again. Danger of getting old I guess
