Description The Pleiades (m45) aka the seven sisters. The second time I've tried this little beaut, the first time the scope was running out of power and the stars trailed. Pleased with this one as the blue nebula shows well behind each star

It's very nice - stunning photo.  When I was a young child I always thought the Pleiades looked like a miniature Ursa Major!

Hello! Nice shot of the Pleiades!! I am planning on buying a new telescope with camera attachment capabilities. What telescope did you use and how is the camera? Thanks!

Ah, the Pleiades. My favorite constellation. I like the starbursts (well, they are stars...).

Thanks very much! Yeah the pleiades is a nice constellation; kinda like a mini plough. My fave constellation is orion. Loads of treats around those stars

My favorite place to visit for an extended vacation. I have relatives that lives on one of the planets in that region. The food there is just fantastic, along with the night views on their planet.

Very nice photo. How long was the exposure? What kind of setup did you have to do this?

Wow, this is nice!! Reflection nebula *shiver* this is nothing for my H-alpha lightpollution killer - here you need a dark sky (or how dark was your sky?), never really tried this. Good job!

Thanks man!!! I'm pleased with this but I wish I got a pic through my 300mm lens to get a wider field of view. I'd say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being middle of the desert. My light pollution level here is 5. I live on the corner of a village with street lights from the village and a shopping park one side and lots of fields on the other. Pics over the village are noticably more orange than over the fields. Thanks for the comment

Hmm, I think a level of 5 on the quicksimon-scale is quite ok. I think I like this telescopic fov better than the fov at 300 mm but don't hesitate to use your 300 mm on this in the future

Nice photo.

What was the exposure time/camera settings for this shot? Did you stack any images? I have a 350D myself and will be getting the proper hardware to use it in a prime focus setup with a 12" telescope, so I'm very interested.

quicksimon In reply to MJCfromCT [2005-12-10 00:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Hi and Thanks!!

For this I stacked approx 8, 60 -80 sec exposures all at iso800. 12" scope, I can't wait to see some pics, you must see some awesome things with that.

Good one
You may cut to blue channel only, cause it's Pleiades dominant colour
The nebulosity would be better visible then.

Thanks, blue channel? Do you mean in Photoshop?

FoxMaq In reply to quicksimon [2005-11-11 17:26:11 +0000 UTC]

Could be.
Any program that allows You to extract single channel. Of course it would be B&W but I assure You, it will show more

Nice! One of my favorite things to view in my scope. What kind of set up do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

quicksimon In reply to Afardege [2005-11-11 17:17:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!!,I use an lxd55 8" f4 s newt. 350D prime focus. This set up gives me quite a wide field of view.

Afardege In reply to quicksimon [2005-11-12 16:01:36 +0000 UTC]

Mine is a Orion 8" newt with a DSI imager. My tube is 1000mm so my FoV is really small. Though I am going to try a set up using a telextender placed over my 42mm lens to see if I can get some wide field shots. Tonight looks like I will have clear skies. The only thing I don't know is if I can get it in focus. Guess I will find out soon8)

lol! I wish I did, that would be my dream job. I've hardly been out with my scope lately to be honest. The last few pics are from a long session when the weather was unusually good one night (30th oct). i just haven't had much chance to sort the pics out and upload them

Ahhhhh... I'd like to work at an observatory. The only problem would be that I have no clue how the coordinates of space work...
