Checkpoint 1.5: Has your character ever helped another character?  Show us!

Little Bird// There was a large crash as a roan mare bumped into one of the metal tins that lined the alley ways. Her heart hammered in her chest as she galloped through the streets, weaving through the small alleys to try and evade her attacker. The cougar let out a yowl on anger as it leaped over the bin, chasing after her. Little Bird let out a small squeal when the large cat's claws raked her back leg. The loner mare kicked out with her back legs, missing by a fraction of a inch. Her hooves clicked wildly on the hard pavement, skittering through each corner. Her breath came out in short pants as panic and adrenaline coursed through her, pushing her legs faster and faster. Bird turned a sharp corner, colliding with the wall for a split second. The mare came to an abrupt halt and let out a small gasp as she stared at the wall in front of her. She was trapped. The young mare whirled around to face the cougar who slowly stalked down the alley. The expression on its face looked almost as though it was smirking at her mistake. Its tail lashed back and forth, and it barred its teeth in a wicked grin. Bird looked around the alley in a panic. It felt like her heart would beat out of her chest at any moment. If she didn't find some way to get herself out of this, she wouldn't have a heart to beat at all. Her brown eyes widened in fear as she stared at what would inevitably be her doom. 'I'm going to die by getting eaten by a cougar. Very fitting since it's my father's namesake,' Bird thought, shaking her head in disbelief. Her father would never even know what happened to his daughter. He was much too old to go anywhere, and he probably wouldn't even be able to take care of himself. Tears threatened to stream down her cheeks at the very thought of failing her father, leaving him to die because she didn't know how to defend herself or rather didn't want to fight. She had spent her entire life training for this very moment, and she couldn't bring herself to do anything. It was as if all of the moves her father had taught her were escaping as the cougar crept closer. "Help!!!" Bird called out. Her voice cracked as tears fell down her face. The cougar let out a low growl at her attempts to call for help. The roan mare backed against the wall, and blood ran down her leg where the cougar had scratched her. "Please! Help me!"

Eden// A block of devastated city away, Eden's head shot up.

The ruins were not exactly his favorite place, but it was the only location of several important herbs that the Olde herd was running tragically low on. A riveting game of 'I'm not going, YOU go' with the other healers had seen Eden caving to pressure (most of which was the headache their squabbling had caused) and agreeing to take up the task himself. Thus he'd found himself wandering the war torn city, head low and ears ever so slightly pinned. He disliked the way the concrete felt under his hooves, offering no give. It made the little rocks and pebbles he encountered painful, and in turn he became hyper aware of his hoofsteps, dancing around every potential stone bruise and keeping his eyes on the path when he should have been keeping them up, keeping watch for potential dangers. Nature was persistence in this place, creeping her way out of the cracks and crannies, creating little shocks of green that brought life to drab gray. It also brought cougars, and while he'd managed to survive an encounter with one in the past, he doubted he'd get so lucky a second time.

The damn cats claim such large territories that there's essentially no chance of even catching a glimpse of one, he'd told himself. And because the unicorns had an absolute shit sense of humor, Little Bird had screamed not but a few seconds after the thought. Oh, fuck my life.

It absolutely wasn't his problem. The voice didn't belong to anyone he recognized, and out here in the city, it was most likely a Loner. He owed no loyalty to wanderers, and certainly he did not owe his life. Whatever danger had the stranger cornered could very well turn on him, and he had no illusions about his ability to fight. Which was to say, absolutely none.

So why did he find himself galloping towards the cry, every ounce of his quarter horse heritage thrown into the sprint?

When he reached the mouth of the alley his haunches dipped, throwing him into a sliding stop that quickly grew out of control as he skidded forward several feet, clipping his shoulder on the alley's decrepit wall. The rough stone scraped across his fur like sandpaper, taking hair and a bit of skin. It was nothing serious that he could afford to worry about. His gaze was on the other horse and the deadly cat between them, evaluating the situation and making a split decision on how best to handle it. There was an a dumpster directly in front of him. He didn't know what it was, but by god he knew it was loud when you ran into it, and he judged it would be even louder when kicked. "Hold on, I'm coming," He called to the mare, knowing the words were cold comfort even as he said them. He charged forward the sparse few feet it took to reach the metal monstrosity and swung his hips around, braced his front hooves, and kicked the metal monstrosity as hard as he could. The resulting sound was a furious rumble, a startling bang that made his ears pin. The impact shivered up his hind legs and deep into his spine, protesting his heroics with a profound feeling of ow shit, but if it managed to scare the cougar off, he supposed his teeth rattling in his skull was worth it.

This is absolutely fabulous.

Eden's expression, Little bird's expression, and that look of 'aw dammit, not another one' on the cougar's face.
