I quite like how this turned out being only the second large scale photomanip I've done (original is 3872 x 2604, or 10 megapixel). I lost track of time taken but it's easily 35+ hours of work, not including the many hours spent browsing the 1000's of excellent DA stock photos.

I started thinking about a backstory for this after stock-by-brink mentioned it. This dark little piece just sort of popped out:

"The Watcher is here. I cannot see him. I feel his presence, his cold stare, piercing my soul. His strength grows, even now, as I think the Orb song.

Hear my thoughts, Grandmaster. Help me. Guide me. If I am to escape His grasp one more time, and end this darkness, I must learn this power. I feel it flowing through me now. Like ice and fire all at once.

I'm scared again. This feeling. Knowing. Like last time. That can never happen again. Never. The whole village gone just like that. My fault. I lost control. Not ready. Never again.

The master is with me now. In my mind. Singing. The ice is melting, the fire dying. At last. Warm. Comfortable. The Orb spins faster. The cold, silent ball flickering with streamers of icy fire around it.

There is a break in the clouds and a shaft of light falls on us. A sound high above. Birds scatter, noisily flapping away in the darkness. There he is! He sees us. The Orb senses. Darkens. Hums quietly. It has begun.
